On my 1968 car, the first number we need is clearly in the box labeled ZONE. Mine said "24". The Dealer number is in the box labeled DEALER right next to the first box. Mine was "031". The dealer name and address was right next to those boxes. My car was built at the Fremont, California plant. I'm curious if all the plants had the same build sheet layout? "Mysteries to be solved" section: ================================ Some people are giving me three digit zone codes instead of the usual two digits. Now we know why. The few three digit zone codes I have seen usually start with a "3". John Hugentober has: Zone ??, Dealer 079 Burnett Pontiac, Inc., 8166 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45236 He says: "My dealer code says 309 079. There is another number on the sheet that is some other code and it is 022. Don't know if this is the Zone #. My Starlight Black '69 Judge came from this dealership." Look! John Schuh makes sense of it for us: ....309-079 represents the following... 3....... Pontiac Authorized Dealer Region Code 09..... Cincinnati Zone 079... Dealer Code (Burnett Pontiac) John says he has seen the info displayed in different combinations as well... depends on the documents. SOLVED! Now we know what the following dealer and zone means... Dealer 318 427 LaFollette Sales Co., LaFollette, TN That means 3 is the region code. 18 is the zone code. 427 is the dealer code! 3/20/98 John Schuh (Framair@aol.com) helps us solve a little more of the mystery... Nice to see an effort at sharing info (for FREE) especially the Zone/Dealer Codes. I know that PHS had talked of including this breakdown for those requesting their Billing History....for an extra charge. There is a MoPar guru that charges to decipher Trim-Tags...and there is a Ford guy who does something similar. Oh well..that's America...opportunity & all that. Still... I think if something is available for free with a little research and sharing of info, then the results should be shared with other enthusiasts for free. That is exactly what I am doing with the '67-'69 Firebird Registry and the Broadcast Sheet Codes. Regarding the Zone/Dealer Codes... I started collecting these codes back in the early 80's and shared/swapped info with friends around the country. I have accumulated quite a list that I will be forwarding to you soon. As far as your WebSite question regarding the Fisher Body (Factory) Broadcast- Sheet...No, the plants did not share the same format. I collected Broadcast Sheets from Junk yard cars while in S.California and throughout Michigan as well as all the copies I've received thru the Registry-Research. For 1968..'A' Bodies (GTO, LeMans,etc)...the Fremont B'Cast Sheet had a little more info than those built in Pontiac, Michigan. The big difference is the Dealer Info. Pontiac B'Cast sheets show the codes but not the Dealer Name/Address. Same with the 'F' Bodies....no Dealer Info on the Broadcast Sheet (67-69). As for the confusion with the Zone/Dealer Codes... John says the following: The Zones were sorted into Regions.. Eastern--- 31 Central---32 Midwest---33 Southern---34 Western---35 Pacific---36 (I'll send you the breakdown for these as well) WHERE TO FIND A BROADCAST SHEET: =============================== The Body Broadcast Sheet was used in the assembly plant as a way for the line worker to easily recognize which component, accessory, engine, etc. to put on each vehicle. Once the car was complete, there was no other purpose for this sheet so, it usually was not left with the car. I have found though, that MOST '68's built at the Lordstown, OH plant will have at least one (sometimes 4) full or partial B'Cast Sheets still within the car (provided that the car was never restored). Also, its not uncommon to find a Broadcast Sheet in your car for the car built BEFORE yours... Remember, to the Line-Worker, this was just a piece of paper ! Common Locations for Body Broadcast Sheet: * Under Rear-Seat (Lower Half) * Under Rear-Seat (Upper Half)..sometimes stuck in springs * Between track assy and seat assy on Passenger-side front seat * Under the carpet underlayment (sound-deadner)...pass.cmprtmt. floor pan * Between the seat covers and the seat cushion...only look if cover is bad! * Between Gas-Tank and Trunk Floorpan * Behind Door-Trim Panels * Behind Rear Qtr. Trim Panels...esp. on convertibles * Under the Instrument Panel Pad (usually only partial) * Within the tire (only on VERY original cars...those w/original air. * Ok, that last one WAS a joke. :) .....One other 'tip'...if and when you DO find the B'Cast Sheet...handle with care as it is usually very brittle. Some found under the sound-deadener are actually 'bonded' to the oil-based underlayment so...keep the whole thing, its still readable. GENERATION-1 FIREBIRD REGISTRY FRamair@aol.com I have found Broadcast Sheets in several different places on GTO's & Firebird's. Used to find them UNDER the rear seat covers on '64's ! Also, 68-72 I seemed to find them under the carpet or sound-deadener...usually VERY impregnanted with oil from the sound-deadner. On my '68 Firebird 400 RAI conv, I found most of one under the rear seat in the springs...a mouse had removed some and made a nest..let me tell ya, reassembling THAT one was like doing archaelogical-work! Also, found one in my car for the car built just before mine (a common occurance). Found half of another for mine under the carpet/sound- deadener behind the pass. seat...and found another one glued to the pass.side seat seat springs between the seat itself. If you disassemble your car as complete as I have, you'll find something ! (including old french fries, drive-in movie stubs, repair receipts, extra fasteners dropped during assembly, etc. On 2 different 68 GTO 400 HO's I parted out several years ago, I found the B'Cast sheet under the carpet...same for a '71 GTO 455 HO.. under the carpet...pass. front. The car was ordered from Japan through a PX for delivery upon the serviceman's return to to the USA. The build sheet has 2 zones and dealer codes. One is labeled "ship to". The ship to label is tag 1, zone 2 dealer 415. This is Myrtle Motors Corp. 61-20 Fresh Pond Rd., Maspeth, NY. The other set of data is zone 79, dealer 001. I believe this is for G.M. Overseas Distributors, 767 Fifth Ave. New York, NY. From the original owner, I found that he had picked the car up at Myrtle Motors upon his discharge from the service.
