I run 3:55 gears so getting a tire at least as tall the the redlines I took off was important. = The tire is about the same diameter as the orginal f70/14 that was on the car. The tire fill the wheel well nicely and just fit inside the fender lip. I run dulop sp8000. Nice tires. (most are not Black Vinyl) & some of the shops want = $200-400 for re-upholstery /per seat. and $100 per seat from a scrap yard, plus i would have to fab the brackets... either way i'm looking at $800 or more at least. i also wanted to put speakers in the headrest, which creates a whole new problem... they should have places for the seatbelts (i haven't asked)... i wanted to put a 3 point in (maybe a 5 if the 3 is not ok) take a look at their (Corbeau) on-line catalog @ http://www.corbeau.com/ please let me know if you find anything else out there... (back) Subject: Matching Numbers From: "Keith Donmoyer" <kadonny@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 09:37:30 -0500   Hey Dfmcgr....(sorry did'nt get your first name)   Do not get the block code (YT) and the engine production number (just = below the block code) confused with the VIN code. The block code and engine = prod number are located on the front of the motor by the passenger side = cylinder bank, sounds like you found this number. The block code should cross reference to the codes listed on the First Gen Firebird page for 1969, and =   the engine production number should match the number on the PHS documentation. PHS documentation will confirm that it is a 400 car with a =   th400 trans plus all options, however there have been noted cases where = the numbers on the PHS may not have been exactly 100% correct (could be typos = on these documents....very rare but has happened). So the true way to insure =   that the motor and trans are original is to match the partial VIN numbers. = This VIN number was stamped on the front of the block, but way down by the =   bottom of the timing chain cover. This number is extremely hard to see, = so take a small mirror and a flashlight when you go to see the car. This is the only true way (in my opinion) to insure that the engine is the = original engine. The number stamped down there will be a partial VIN, the same number as the VIN on the dash but missing the 2nd through the 5th digits. =   This is the true test. If this number does not line up to the VIN of the car, then no matter what the code up by the cyl. bank, it is not the original engine. That partial VIN that is on the motor is also stamped on =   the trans. I am not sure of the location on the TH400 trans but someone = on the list will know. As stated before, pick up a Year One catalog, they = have some good pics as to the location of these numbers. Hope this helps, good =   luck   Keith 68 H.O. numbers match     Subject: Re: Matching Numbers? From: <Dfmcgr@cs.com> Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 22:08:03 EST   In a message dated 1/12/01 11:35:15 PM Central Standard Time, paintit@gate.net writes:   I've got little more information from the owner now. The VIN on the dash = is there, as is the number on the engine. Says he has PHS documentation. (I asked him to fax it to me) It is a 330 hp 400 w/th400 automatic. Engine = code is YT.   Hope I don't sound too dumb but I assume the only way to be sure that the VIN and engine #'s match is with the PHS documentation. I assume there is no direct correlation in the numbers.   The problem seems to be that the body plate usually attached to the = firewall is gone. The car is located about 600 miles away, so I want to make sure it's right before I travel to see it.   Asking price is 12k.(standard int., clock, power conv. top, Rallye II wheels, ps,pb, sport wheel.   Thanks for your help. (back) Subject: T/A Nationals From: "Trimpe, Bob" <TrimpeB@rajones.com> Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 12:50:00 -0500   I got a packet from the T/A Nationals inviting me back to this year's = show. It is very helpful to see where my car came = up short. I was pleased to see how good I did overall. The engine compartment was my weak spot; as you all know, I'm currently dong an "engine-out" detailing of this section. Two judges, 100 points each. My combined score was 150. My bird was put in the custom class, due to a number of small non-standard items. I'm hoping with the work I'm doing that I'll get into (or close to) stock class, where I think I'll do better. My stock paint = job is absolutely first-class, but I got a 20 of 25. I guess it's hard to compete with the wild graphics and crazy colors in the custom class. No gripes, though; those guys run a first-class operation.   I had a blast last year, and I'm definitely going back. Anybody else?   Bob Trimpe

This car is in no way original or numbers matching. Its painted dark blue and has rally 2 rims (15x7.5). Under the hood (feel free to scoff, or feel confused) is a 350 out of a 1976 = firebird. Its bone stock right now, yep even a 2bbl. No i didnt build the car this way, its how i got it when i retreived it from a big sleep since 85' from = a shop/barn type effort on a farm. The car runs surprisingly well, and after =   all new fluids, and tires i drove it for about 1900miles over the summer after a tune up. Parked again for winter, i am making some plans. No i = wont swap the engine....$$$....but i am planning for a stock cast intake and = 4bbl carb, along with a distributor recurve, accel wires, and an open element K+N. I have dual exhaust, With dynomax super trubo mufflers, and i want to =   install a 2100rpm converter and shift improver kit into the th-350. i am running highway gears......i guesstimate to be around 3.08, and no posi.
