The problem is the way around. The waterpump pulley is closer to the radiator than the other pulleys. Shim it will only make the problem worse.   I will wait till I get my hands on a later year pulley and see if it = solves the problem. Sort of in between the battery and the fender. took = a little creative bracket bending but it's out of the way and very hard to see. i have a bent polished hard line going from the radiator cap to the can... inside is the rubber line that was used before to guide the = overflow toward the ground. i could take some picts if anyone wants to see. I ll also check locally here in S fla...   To answer your Q about why I want 3.90's and not something a little more cruise friendly has to do with the car I'll be restoring. I'm trying to assemble the needed components for my '68 Ram Air II firebird. Its all there and matching save for the 3.90 posi unit it originally came with. In a perfect world I'd come across a correct 1968 Bird ZP 4pinion 390 but i wont hold my breath....   Again thanks for the help!!   Joe

For firmer shifts that will chirp the tires when you are on it go with the street-strip install. To really make it hit hard do the street strip version and when you drop the valve body look on top of the valve body, you will see a small servo with a snap ring holding it in, remove the snap ring, slide out the servo and remove the spring under it , reinstall the servo without the spring and put the snap ring back on the follow the instructions on the street-strip version. When you are just driving it shifts nice and firm but now neck snapping but when you nail it second gear will be a hard shift barking the tires and third will be very firm also most of the time mine chirps it also Daniel Ray
