If someone has something and can supply information on where to obtain the parts, I love to see them. If you have pictures, you can = forward them to: rlumsden@tampabay.rr.com   Thanks, Roy   ----- Original Message ----- From: <hugoba@apcom.com> To: <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> Sent: Sunday, February 04, 2001 1:29 AM Subject: Re: Coolant recovery tank     > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > = ......................................................................... > My 64 Olds Vista Cruiser has a plastic bottle that wraps in front of the drivers > side fender that is for the windshield washer fluid. (back) Subject: RE: 350 power tricks? From: "tim marcinek" <marcts@ga.prestige.net> Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 10:20:29 -0500     What rear gear ratio are you running? If you are running high gearing (numerically) 3.73 or more, and put a hot cam in it, and performer rpm, 4bbl, headers, 2.5 exhaust, stall converter etc, you may be able to break into the mid 14's with it.   I went through all of this but have a 2.56 gear. I put on the performer manifold, performer carb 600 cfm (i really like this), msd ignition, msd distrib, headers, flowmaster 2.5 in kit.   It sounds great and drives fine, but all I could muster is 15.8 at about = 90 mph, running through the quarter in second with room to spare.   So I had a choice to keep the 350 or change the rear. I kept the rear and am almost done with my new 455. (462 now) I am going to try it with the 2.56 first, and if it does not satisfy me, I will go with a 3.23 gear. I = am hoping to the into the 13's with the new motor.   The best part, if you get all of these things, you can use them on a = larger motor if you choose, since pontiacs are all basically the same. (Except maybe the 600 carb, i may be selling mine, i have a holley 750 which was = too big for the 350, only ran 1 week, and swapped for the 600.) The 600 may be gasping for breath with the 455.   Anyway if you get the flowmaster, it sounds like you are going like hell even if you are not. I get yelled at more in my firebird (country roads) than i do in my new z28, even going much slower in the firebird.   have fun   tim
(back) Subject: new style alternator From: "tim marcinek" <marcts@ga.prestige.net> Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 10:24:20 -0500   Hi guys, On my new motor i am trying to use the 73 accessories. I have them all as well as the timing cover and accessories from my 68 motor. I want to use the 73 alternator with internal regulator and eliminate the external regulator on mine.   I haven't gotten out the wiring diagrams yet, but just wanted to ask if anyone has done this before, and if there are any pitfalls.   thanks   tim
(back) Subject: Re: Coolant recovery tank From: "Bob Trimpe" <trimpe@fuse.net> Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2001 10:36:35 -0500   I currently have a barf can mounted right behind the battery. I made a "L" bracket that screwed to the battery hold-down, so no extra gholes. The = bottle is really small - came out of a Honda Civic. I'm looking for ways to make = it less obtrusive; Attila's mod looks like a good one. I went with the internal regulator as we.. and instead of threading wires I bought a new wire harness for the front. (one for the rear too) But just to let you = know They have the harnesses in stock look very good. From: <geebjen@att.net> Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2001 13:59:04 -0500   Rod,   I think you've gotten some good advice so far.....let me add these two things.   1) You most likely have a 2.56 or maybe 2.78 rear end. Upgrade to a 3.23 or so.   2) If you have an auto trans, get a 2000 or 2400 stall torque converter.   These two changes alone made a huge difference on my wife's 350.   Steve Lothridge     > Subject: 350 power tricks? > From: "Just Rod" <pjozif@hotmail.com> > Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2001 02:17:38 -0000 > > what is the best way to liven up a 350 pontiac? other than a camshaft! > a swap from 2bbl to 4bbl? > exhaust? > how about the other little tricks like a cold thermostat, open element, = k+n, > carb spacer, high energy wires or a super coil?--- > is there anything else? > ROD > = _________________________________________________________________________

They = do sell very cheep rebuilt alternators and starters, but they also have brand new alternators and some good quality rebuilt starters in which the only thing reused is the casing. They use updated technology in these too. I saw = the cheep junk come back all the time, but the better parts work really well. = I have run them with no problem. (back) Subject: 67 exhaust From: "Jim Miller" <jimdmi@kcdata.com> Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 17:56:33 -0600   I 'm getting ready to install an exhaust on my 67 convertable. My problem is that there was nothing on it when I bought the car so I have no idea = what the system looks like. I would like to install a system that is close to original. I noticed in some of the aftermarket catalogs that most of the systems they offer will not work on convertables. Does anyone have a = photo or diagram that will show me what the exhaust looks like? Anyone have a suggestion on where I can buy a complete exhaust? What is the difference between a coupe and convertable axhaust? Jim 67convert.
(back) Subject: What's a 67 turn lever with cruise look like?? From: <kmorrow@socket.net> Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 01:24:21 GMT   Anyone have a 67 with cruise control. From: "Geoff Martin" <Geoff@firstgenfirebird.org> Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 21:08:21 -0500   I show the smooth black with white "<-Cruise" etched into it on a '68 Pontiac. This is from a '68 Pontiac sales manual but it looks to be from a big cruiser. Should be the same for the Firebird.   Photo at: http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/graphics/accessories/441.jpg   Found using the '68 Options and Accessories web page: http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/1968/options.html   Geoff '68 Mayfair Maize Firebird 350 Convertible <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=3D46> <Geoff@FirstGenFirebird.org>   ps - Would be interested in borrowing someone's '67 sales manual to scan the graphics.
