(back) Subject: Overflow bottle From: "Kevin" <kyoung@sagelink.net> Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 07:32:12 -0600   On Overflow bottles, I bought a kit from Auto-Zone and mounted the bottle = in front of the radiator support near the battery, because of the air damn it cannot be seen from the top or the engine compartment and works good. I imagine it will be a pain to unscrew the bolts for the radiator cover (air Damn) if I ever need to put water in it tho.   just my way of doing it.   BTW I am in LA working for a couple weeks and I rented a 2001 Bright RED Firebird convertible....... and for those of you who have never driven a = NEW Bird, well.... it is a must, I must admit tho I have a lot more heads turning when I cruise by in my 68.   Kevin

Most any 1st Gen Bird will bring a good price nowadays.. Pricing is also affected by what = region of the country you live in. I hav a 68 350 Convert. it has 100K and they typical rust you would find on a 32 year old northern car. It was appraised a few years ago at $5,500. It has some rare oprions on it, most noteable are the power windows. It has a repalcement 350 block though.. I have had offers, rust holes, chips dings cracked winshield and all, of $7,500 and I wouldn't sell it. I'll never sell the car anyway. Hope this helps a bit. BTW, let us know if it's a Sprint, !!! So if you guy's want it = I'll offer it to you first, or if anyone else on the list just has to have one but can't find one. I'll be glad to sell this one for the actual retail of $2.99 to you. I just want to pass them around to First Gen enthusiasts!   I'll still be looking for more and will notify the list if I find some = more. I'll buy all I can find... (back) Subject: Re: Traction bar usageon 67's From: <kmorrow@socket.net> Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 14:57:55 GMT   All 67 axles have the brackets for both bars welded on the housing whether = they used both or not. It was determined by engine and tranny combo. I think it = was just the manuals that got both bars. Have a 67 400 coupe with turbo 400 = and performance axle ratio, only got the pass. side. Have a 67 conv., 326 2bbl =   2speed auto only the pass side. The axle bracket with the stop bumper and = the bar itself is different from camaro (bar on birds is shaped like an I-beam =   camaro was either round or square). The front passenger side bracket that = bolts to floor pan is the same as camaro and can be found repo in camaro = catalogs (camaro never used a driver side bar so you won't find a front driver's = side bar for or on one).     Kane kmorrow@socket.net

They had both L&R side traction bars as did the HO 326 cars and yes the 400's did too.   The... Commonarrow's only had the mono leaf in the rear for most of their first gen lives (excluding the larger HP Z-28/RS & SS) when in 68 Pontiac went to multi-leaf sprigs and no longer needed the factory traction bars. Again reaffirming Pontiac's superiority in the performance arena! Go Poncho!   Brett in Seattle! 67 Drop Top _________________________________________________________________________ I believe that the single bar came on all 67's except the 400's. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Hugo ___________________________________________________________________________=   I was just studying upon those things, There should (on a 400 car) be a = pair of heavy plates under the back seat, each with two heavy bolts hanging = down. OHC6 cars only had the passenger side, and I have that (passenger) plate = if you need it. I gather the bars are tough to come by. rowan

As you already know, = it's not real bright to bid early, so most everyone is going to bid at the = end. I buy lots of stuff off ebay. I've learned to wait to the end and = then bid the most I think a part is worth. If I get it, then great, if = not, it was worth more to the next guy. And, yes, there is some sort of = last second bidding package that you can buy that submits your bid at the = very end. Not sure where to get it though.   Joe Geigel
(back) Subject: Re: One Piece Fuel Lines From: "Lee" <pyre400@yahoo.com> Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 10:26:42 -0800 (PST)     It took me about an hour to put my SS fuel line in, though it was already on jack stands and the rear wheels were off. I got the one piece that went from the gas tank to the top of the control arm on the passenger side. All you have to do is unbend the thing (it comes bent in half) Then you have to take off the parking brake cable off... Actually I think I left a little bend in the line, you will need it in order to fit it in. There is a bolt you must remove on a hold down in the front before the control arm on the frame (by the ground strap. Then there are some spring like holders holding the line to the frame, and the vapor return to the line. The hardest part I think was getting the old rubber tubes off of each end of the line. They were hard as a rock and would not give. Be careful of those clips on the frame as time has made them brittle..   I can really say much more than what experience will. I did not have to take anything else off, but I remember using a little finesse on the line and then bending back, just be careful of those clips and watch the coil-stone guard that goes around certain points... you'll find the after market has less area covered, but it will tend to slide up and down the bends. Make sure the stone guards are in the same place on the new as they are on the old... Oh, and keep the red end caps on till you put the new line in, it will keep dirt and rust out while you install.   Sorry for the long response, good luck... Feel free to e-mail me off line if I could be of more assistance.   Lee     __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! But, there ARE still good deals to be had. I recently picked up a factory clock for my car. It's out of a `67, mine's a `68, but it was close enough for me. I got it for $76 !!! In December, my wife was going to try to get one for my Christmas present. We saw 4 or 5 go for $175 to $300 ! I think the prices also depend on what time of year it is ? E-bay can be a good tool for us, if we use our heads and don't "overpay". I don't think we would be able to locate some of the "hard to find" parts near as easily without it. Good luck in the future.     Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top
