The chevrons are a nice touch. If I had to pick one I sit back and stair at and get sentimental about, the "Beak." I usually receive the most comments about it plus it is cool how it glows at night with the lights on. My friends could always spot me with the "third headlight." (back) Subject: RE: Bird pictures on da web-advice! From: "bird@mail.javanet.com" <bird@mail.javanet.com> Date: Sun, 25 Feb 2001 06:58:56 -0500 I too bought a 67 firebird 326 convertible out of a barn - it was more = intact than yours but not a 100% ready-to-go car either. Mine too was a = relatively "plain jane" car option-wise. So, speaking from experience, = here's my $.02 worth. If you want the car to enjoy, buy it. If you want the car and are worried = about getting "your money out of the car," you should consider walking = away. Even as a convertible, a 326 - even matching numbers - is not the = highest demand bird out there. You will likely end up with more in than = you can get out. I spent years and a ton of money getting my car to its = present state. I am very happy with it, and it's certainly worth a ton of = money, but it doesn't matter - I own it to own it, show it, drive, it = admire it - but not to sell it. If your motivation's similar, and it's = matched by your stomach to spend money and time on the car, buy the car. As for price, as a coupe I'd say it was worth $1000 to $1500. Since it's = a convertible, I personally wouldn't pay more than $3000-$3500 for it, and = I'd try to buy it for less. I'd spend that money only if I was convinced = it was a matching numbers car. Since it's a 67, there is no VIN stamped = on the block so you'll have to do some sleuthing to determine if it's all = original. If your car is a true 326, the air cleaner and valve covers = should not be chrome. NOTE: If your car is a real 326 HO, these items = might be chrome - someone else on the list can tell you. Since an = original 326 HO is a relatively rare car, it would be worth more and = therefore you should be willing to spend more to buy it. To find out = you'll probably have to send your VIN to PHS. Your car has some wierd = combinations, suggesting that it might be a real HO. It would be odd for = someone to have taken the time to swap the air cleaner, valve covers and = carburetor but leave the steel wheels and PMD hubcaps. This at Just looking at the car, you gotta wonder about the hit that put that bend = in the front bumper. That concerns me. Was the front clip bent? Look at = the photo below the bumper - it looks like the valence is bent too. It's = hard to tell from the photos, but the cowl/windshield wiper area looks = funky, or even missing. Are there turn signal indicators up front? Hard = to tell. If you want some inspiration, here's a link to photos of my 1967 firebird = convertible, after finding it in a state similar to yours and after all = the time and money - wouldn't trade that experience for the world! Good = luck. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=3D1483095&a=3D11173602&p=3D39054570 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=3D1483095&a=3D11173602&p=3D41451269 Dan Kagan bird@javanet.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mail2Web - Check your email from the web at http://www.mail2web.com/ .

Now I really want to run out and start tearing out my 350 to get the project rolling. Still can not convince my wife how important it is to get the Firebird back on the road when she needs a new car and some work needs to be done on the house. If it took some of you 15 years to get your Firebirds back on the road, the three I have been waiting is not bad. Will have to convince one of you to let me drive your Bird around the block this summer but just not Hugo's...... want to go away with some clean shorts ;-) Actually, if the throttle sticks on a nice straight shot and no traffic, it could be fun but not on an on-ramp in California! When are the dates this year? There would be nothing stopping a couple regional organized events. I like the Ohio events since they are both out my back door. Also would like the events to be Pontiac specific with some extra events or speakers added in the mix. From: "Geoff Martin" <Geoff@firstgenfirebird.org> Date: Sun, 25 Feb 2001 07:08:33 -0500 I might complain about our house taking precidence but I was sold on the house because of the garages. We have a small two car garage and a large 4 car garage which I could probably fit 6 in it. I don't think I even saw the house when I said I would buy it. They use to repair Model T's in the large garage (house is over 100 years old). Had the luxury to talking to the second owner. We are the fifth owner.
