I did it when I got new lines. Try feeding them in from the front. It's not easy but possible. Last engine swap I did I bolted on the lines before I put = the engine and tranny in. This is a good tip for anyone to save some trouble. Just one of those tips that help out. A friend saved me some trouble = during my rebuild by telling me to put the oil pump shaft in before I put in the oil pump. you can't put it in from the top. He noticed when he went to = put the shaft in with his engine already in the car. He ended up grinding on the shaft in order to get it in.
(back) Subject: Radiator recommendation From: "Slobird" <marcts@ga.prestige.net> Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 09:55:30 -0400 Hi All, Well I am in the middle of a TH400 rebuild and learning as I go along. = Not too bad so far. Trans is disassembled and I am cleaning. Found that the forward clutch frictions were shot. Everything else looks very good. Am going to replace frictions and steels, and seals, and probably that's = about it, along with new converter and aftermarket cooler. Anyway, since I've had my 455 in, I noticed that when the temp was only 70 deg, the engine temp started climbing to about 220. I am not sure if my slipping trans could of been contributing, introducing heat through the cooler, but: I'm guessing I'll need a better radiator. As far as I know now I have a stock radiator which came with my original 350. What kind of radiator do you recommend? I would like to stay around $200 which eliminates the griffins, be cools etc. thanks Tim
(back) Subject: RE: Radiator From: "Chris Porter" <fxstsb@qwest.net> Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2001 08:27:59 -0700 Tim, I just recieved my new radiator from Ames. It was $250 to my door. It look's outstanding, and fit's well ( to my core support....lol, Old's engine trouble ). They had the option for manual ( no trany cooler ), or auto with trany cooler. So it will look correct. It's a 4-core unit, so I'm hoping it will cool well. Someone else on the list had one as well, but I think they too hadn't run the car yet. I thought the price was very good after I got the unit and looked it over. Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top

Our 1995 Silhouette was = totalled. Fortunately, my wife was fine, and surgery went on as planned = (now we're into rehab mode). We liked our Silhouette a lot. It had 125k miles on it with no signs of = weakening. So GM was our first choice for a replacement minivan. We thought the timing was good, since GM was offering rebates AND loyalty = discounts on their vans. GM had $2000 rebates AND $1500 loyalty discounts = for buyers who already had a GM car. Wow! Great deal! I was ready to buy = yet another GM product. Not so fast...Oldsmobile refused to give me a loyalty discount. The fine = print said you only get the discount if your GM is a 1996 or newer. Mine = was a 1995. Calls and emails to Oldsmobile got me nothing. Apparently, = despite owning three GM cars (1967 firebird convertible, 1992 firebird = convertible, 1995 Olds Silhouette) mine is not the brand of loyalty to = whom they are appealing. I also tried Pontiac, whose Montana we preferred anyway. They had smaller = but still substantial rebates and loyalty discounts. No dice, same "1996 = or newer" fine print. I walked away. Did that sour me on GM? You bet it did. I bought a Toyota = Sienna XLE. Best darn minivan I've ever driven And it's built in Kentucky! Dan Kagan bird@javanet.com PS Relevant portion of this rant: While at the Pontiac dealership I = drove an Aztek. I closed my eyes and had the salesman lead me to the car = so I didn't become nauseated as I approached. Once inside it, I opened my = eyes and took it for a drive. Not a bad vehicle from the inside out. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mail2Web - Check your email from the web at http://www.mail2web.com/ .

(back) Subject: Missing bolts... From: "matt schmid" <schmidmj@hotmail.com> Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2001 18:04:52 Ok folks, I'm still slowly working on getting my 68 350 running. As I've said before, when I bought the car the engine was in the compartment and = the intake manifold was there, the rest of it was in the trunk. Well, I've basically got most everything back on it and I've come to find that I am missing some bolts. My question is, how likely is it to find a 68 350 in a = junkyard, and if not, what other kind of cars will have the same = size/thread bolts that I need? I'm missing things like the bolts for the hood hinges, fan bolts, a bolt near the alternator for adjusting belt tension, and = other random bolts. If anyone has a 68 350 that they are parting out and has all = the bolts email me off the list. Any suggestions would be much = appreciated. By the way I should have some pics on the web of what the engine looked = like when I first bought it soon. Thanks. PMDs 2 seater was doomed from the day they put a V-6 in the Fiero. Original plan was to turbo first and put and put an all aluminum V-6 with turbo but Cheby killed that . Not threat to the Covette thats a no = no. So the assembly line for RWD Camaros-Firebirds could be used for more popular Trucks and SUVs. Never thought I would see the day that a truck was more popular than our beloved Firebird. Thanks Gary

(back) Subject: Re: Re Fiero and Firebird and other money losers From: "ROY D LUMSDEN" <rlumsden@tampabay.rr.com> Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 21:13:58 -0400 The rumors abound about the demise of the Fiero. The car was awesome with the Super Duty 4-cylinder. That's the motor that was in the cars that actually paced the Indy 500 (in all, 4 were specialty built for that = race). When Pontiac killed that motor, the V-6 proved a popular and more reliable alternative. Pontiac engineers started experimented with performance = motors. The 2.8 power plant was slated to get the stroked to 3.1 in 89. The next logical alternative was the 3.4 or move to the 3800 and the supercharged 3800. Rumors around 1986 (when I bought my first Fiero -- an 85 GT) were that Pontiac was experimenting with a turbo 2.8 and was considering production. About that same time, GM was going through a budget crunch and was looking at ALL models where the profitability fell "below the line". This INCLUDED the Corvette division. I believe that GM made a choice. Since the Corvette and the Fiero were sport two seaters and both of their profits fell below the line, they -- of course -- decided to keep the Corvette and cut the Fiero. Do I think that the Corvette division felt threatened by the little Fiero... yes. Roy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Patrick" <Gary@tcworks.net> > Roy it not secret..
