(back) Subject: Music/Song that defines the gen 1 'birds From: "Duane Bender" <dbender@dotcomify.com> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 10:23:28 -0400   Hello,   Summer is almost upon us, and in some parts of the continent we are starting to see the sun for the first time in months. Covers are coming off and V8's are firing - time for cruisin'....   SO ---- I'm looking for opinions on the "song, artist or other music that defines the gen 1 'birds" -- you know, the song that revs up YOUR engine while you're spending time with your precious baby bird.   Let me know what you think!   Thanks & cheers,   -Duane Bender '68 V8 Coupe
(back) Subject: Multi Leaf Springs From: "Greg Camaro" <myhotrs@hotmail.com> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 07:29:34 -0700   Hey all, I am shopping for new multi-leaf springs for my 68 coupe. Corvette Brakes =   has a carbon? composite spring (very steep $$). I have also seen various lowered and high performance springs. What have you guys used and what would you recommend? The car will be street driven only, but I want it to handle. I've been on the list for about two years now and you could say that all I know about Birds I've learned from the list. It's a great source of knowledge. Feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any swedish related bird questions.   /Niklas Gothenburg, Sweden 68 Coupe           u92109186@telia.com wrote:   > > Hello! > I=B4m Roger Andersson and is living in Sweden! > Is it anyone else but me in this mailing list who is from Sweden? > I have heritage a restoration object, a 68 Firebird, for a couple of = years > ago and I will try to restore it with a start later this year. > Regards > Roger Andersson > Boden, Sweden > > -------

My 68 was assembled in November 67 and does not have the shoulder belts. The car is original.   Keith 68 H.O.   Subject: Re: Safety mandated items From: "Andy" <fbird68@ix.netcom.com> Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 23:26:46 -0700   Paul,   The 1968 Annual states that front-seat shoulder harnesses were required starting January 1, 1968. Lap belts were required for all seats. My '68 had front shoulder harnesses, but they proved to be so impractical that I did not put them back up when I replaced the headliner years ago. Is it possible the '68s you've seen were manufactured before January 1? Mine was made in February.   Andy   _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

From: "matt schmid" <schmidmj@hotmail.com> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 18:08:54   The new Holley is a 4bbl 4150/4160 with manual choke, I belive it is 650 cfm, or 600 cfm. It was used so set up for another engine. Tried adjusting =   myself but hadn't learned enough about Holley's to do it correctly. Now I believe after some research I know enough and I'm going to try again tonight. The engine is a 350 stock. I just got new spark plugs, spark plug =   wires, distributor cap, dist coil and dist button/or rotor (HEI obviously) =   the intake manifold is not stock. I believe it is actually and edelbrock intake, not sure but has the split 4 bore intake with 2 smaller than the other two. The rest is stock, I believe, to my knowledge nothing else had been done to it.     >From: Studderin@aol.com >Reply-To: "First Generation Firebird-L" = <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> >To: Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com >Subject: Re: Got it running but... >Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 00:17:42 EDT > >First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List >......................................................................... >Matt > I just read your first post and Think your plugs are folded, What >model >and size is the "new" holley? (back) Subject: Re: Got it running but... From: "marcts" <marcts@ga.prestige.net> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 16:47:22 -0400   Matt,   I just looked at your pics and that is a quadrajet manifold. This is a factory manifold.   You cannot use a holley square bore carb on this manifold without an adapter. This is probably a big reason why your car runs like sh@t!   Even with the adapter it is not good to use the holley with this. Either trash that intake for a performer and use the holley, or get a quadrajet.     The edelbrock manifolds are square bore, the performer is a dual plane as is the performer rpm, and the torquer is a single plane which just has one big square hole.   Since your engine is a stock 350, anything larger than a 600 will be too big.   Also make sure you plug all vacuum leaks!

(back) Subject: Re: 8.5 to 8.2? From: "Frank Zeller" <fzeller@tri-austin.com> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 16:28:09 -0500   This is from the classical Pontiac web site..........................       Hi, I've done lots of those change overs. Grind case and a little off the = ring gear so that ring gear /posi assembly will install in your Pontiac = case. The ring gear will be fine, besides the pinion never touches the = outside of the of the ring gear. Remove big pinion bearing from Chevy, = remove big pinion race from Pontiac case. Take measurements of Pontiac = outer race, Chevy pinion inner race , and Chevy bearing thickness. Now go = to a Decimal to Metric conversion table and change measurements to metric. = Now call bearing shop and order bearing , it's a standard stock unit. And = stronger than original!, (more rollers, hihger grade) Install 8.5 ring , = pinion, posi in a Pontiac case !! Pontiac axles will slide right in, no = worry on the c-clip for Pontiac uses retainer bolts. !! Now you all can do = it, I've been doing this for years, developed it myself .         >>> lws@nextek.net 04/17/01 03:21PM >>> First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List .......................................................................... is it possible to change the insides of 79 camaro/firebird 8.5 3.42 posi over to my 68 original rear housing which is 8.2,right?any problems? Thanks,Larry
