From: <hugoba@apcom.com> Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 16:28:16 -0700 (PDT) Rodger, I don't know if the cost of shipping is too high but i just got a Desert = Cooler from Ames for $219.00 and have it installed with my 455 and the thing is increddibly cool. The car stays at 190 or a bit less regardless of long = idling or freeway. Granted that I have not had it on a lot of hot stop and go = traffic but I think it will do great. Here's one you can do at home... on the throttle end of the TV cable(by the transmission, not the couch!), where it attaches to the bracket, there is a little tab sticking out...depress the tab and push the cable all the way back toward the = tranny. Then get in the car and mash the accelerator....adjustment complete. = Some fine tuning is possible ...usualy not more than 3 of the little notches. The geometry of the arm on the carb is also pretty critical for proper function. My local tranny shop advised me thet the governor is not removable inthe tailhousing like some GM trans., but it almost never goes bad. Hows the speedo....by random chance, mine worked perfect...was wrong with TH350. Enjoy the stress test. (back) Subject: Master cylinder question's From: "Chris Porter" <fxstsb@qwest.net> Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 21:12:02 -0700 I'm stuck, I can't figure this out. My car came with power drum brakes ( PHS ). My booster went south, I sent it off to have it rebuilt and properly plated back to the gold ( ish ) color. Here my problem. The master on the car right now has about a 1/2 inch deep center hole, where the booster rod goes into the booster. I got two different master cylinder's from a friend in our local Bird club cheap ( thanks Brian ! ), one is for a disc application, one is not. The one that is for disc's, has the same 1/2 inch deep center hole. And it also has two bleeder screw's on the top of each output. The one for drum's, has a center hole that's about 2 inches deep. The rod that was coming out of my booster was very short, matching the current master cylinder. I'm trying to figure out what is supposed to be on the car ??? I would like the brakes to work properly, until I get the coin to have front disc's put on. Do the booster differ from disc to drum application's ? If so, is it just the rod to master cylinder length ? Thanks all, hope somebody can understand what I'm trying to ask ??? Chris `68 350 H.O. Drop-top ( STUMPED ) P.S. Both of the master's are the same dimension's as my current one. Even the reservoir's are the same. Could these both be for drum application's ?

I pulled them all apart last summer to have the subframe blasted and I thought I could remember how they mount and I don't. Duhhh! They are in four pieces and I can't locate any diagrams in the shop manual = for my '67. Any assistance will be appreciated. Doug
(back) Subject: Re: Master cylinder question's From: "Stuart Langer" <stumann1@mindspring.com> Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 06:59:47 -0500 In the late sixties and early seventies, GM used both designs master cylinders. I believe one was Kelsey Hayes, the other was Bendix. There = was no set rule as to which one was used where. If you had gone to a parts store and had the application looked up in a catalog, you would have been asked if you had the short or the deep hole. Neither one is better than = the other, it's just a matter of which one GM decided to put on that day. = Just get a master cylinder with the proper depth hole.
