(back) Subject: Re: electrical question From: "Pete D" <pjd805@yahoo.com> Date: Sun, 29 Apr 2001 12:17:15 -0700 (PDT) Landis, I've also had this problem with my brake light. And I have yet another possibility. I went though my brake system and checked the switch on the p. bake pedal and the light was still on. It turned out to be a bad ground connection going to the dash instruments. Occasionally my hi-beam light would also come on. I guess with age the dash had sagged just enough to cause a problem. I ran a new gound a all was better. PeteJD [69 400/400] Landis writes: >The brake warning light on my dash is always illuminated. I've looked at >everything that I can thinks of. All the brakes are new with new wheel >cylinders and a rebuilt master cylinder. The brakes work fine and the >emergency brake is hooked up and works well enough to stall out the 400 when >I let the clutch out. There are two places where you would find a switch that will turn this light on. One being the switch on the parking brake pedal. The spring loaded switch senses when the pedal is depressed. Check this to see if the spring is binding or if the wire is even connected. The second is on the distribution valve outside the master cylinder. There is a pressure sensor that looks for loss of pressure in the front or rear line. The wire to this sensor is often left unconnected. -BoB San Jose, CA 1968 convertible bob.cisneros@Sun.COM __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! It is held in the frame with splines, similar to the way a wheel stud is held into a rotor = or drum. (back) Subject: Alpine Blue Coloured 68 Firebird - got a pic? From: "Geoff Swavley" <geoffs@radx.net> Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 09:46:20 +1000 Hi All, After 11 years and many $$$$ the paint is going on my Ram Air 1 firebird this week. I have given the shop the various colour codes which are supposed to be correct for alpine blue, but they want me to visually check it as the say it is a very metalic silvery type of blue and possibly not what I wanted. I have never seen an alpine blue (cowl tag code 'D') car .... and there's not a huge chance here in Australia of that happening. Does anyone have a photo or URL to a site where I could see a nice original alpine blue car? It's just a cross check as paint codes don't lie, but there are 4 blues available in 1968 - Alpine blue, Aegina Blue, Nordic Blue, Aleutian Blue - I know there is a well published press photo of a convertible in blue (I think it is in the Lamm book), does anyone know what colour blue that is? I always thought that was alpine blue but now I'm not so sure. thanks geoffs :-)
(back) Subject: Power tour update From: "Hugo Tafel" <hugoptour@yahoo.com> Date: Sun, 29 Apr 2001 17:08:43 -0700 (PDT) Ok guys, It's day 3 of the trip out to Pontiac Michigan for the start of the Power Tour (on may 3rd). I am now in Laramie Wyoming and the car is running great. I stopped in Battle Mountain NV the first night and in Salt Lake City at my wife's grandfather's place yesterday. I also stopped and said hi to Pete in Reno. I'll have to tell you about my heart stopping experience there during an accident and in heavy traffic. The car is running awsome. It has not used one drop of oil yet and the OD and lockup converter are working great (after bypassing the silly vacuum switch). I didn't have time to install a tach but the engine just humms at 75-80 mph. I'm going to try to roughly calculate the gas mileage so far tonight since I haven't been able to do that on the count that my odometer does not work but I'll use the AAA Trip Tik map which has the mileage on it. Well, keep you fingers crossed and hope to meet some more of you along the way. Hugo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! They never = did for the 2 trips I took in the car. They are a little big, like mabe too = big. The look of the beater f-bodies, kinda like the rusty 75 camro that lives down the street. And I put them on my 73 Grand Am, 455 power for a day last fall. I did = some long 1st thru 2nd burnouts in them. And on a 15x7 ralley II they = don't fit right. The tread "rolls" around to the side wall. They are too wide = for the 7inch.rim so the end (goves) of tread never touch the pavment. So = there somthing like 9+ inchs.of tread onthe tire, but they only leave a 7inch. wide burnout mark. They were a little bit on the nobbie side but rode like = crap and hum-ed over 50mph. Finally they will phosphate dip it. Does anyone have any comments on this type of procedure ?? I'm a little nervous 'cos I think I've heard horror stories in the past about acid dipping.
