(back) Subject: RE What is it? From: "Gary Patrick" <Gary@tcworks.net> Date: Tue, 01 May 2001 16:56:34 -0400     Subject: What is it? From: "Ensom" <censom@home.com> Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 23:23:40 -0700   I hope I can get some help in solving this little mystery. Here are the clues that I have at this point.   A have a buzzing sound that is being made by made by my 1969 Firebird Convertible (350 originally with 2 bbl.). Pretty much all original, a bit = of a plain jane (manual roof) 3speed auto on column.     Could be fuel in the fuel line. IF you have a fuel return line the fuel pressure could be releasing from bypass on pump. It will make a hissing or buzzing sound when the valve opens and fuel passes by. Wrap a rag around the fuel pump line and slighlty open the fitting. see if it doesnt clear up. Other wise look for insects inside the rocker panel(seriously) Small drain =   holes that are at each end are perfect for insects to come and go. On another note I heard this story years ago (its a Mopar story so close one eye) Guy goes into dealer complaining of a unusual thunking noise in his new = Mopar. It seemed to change location and sound with road conditions and in turns and braking. Various parts were replaced first the small ones then larger ones, suspension, rear end everything they could think of that might make that noise. After an enormous amount of expense it was finally narrowed down to the rocker panel. A decision was made to "open" the rocker panel up and find the source. When it was open everyone was astounded to find an empty whiskey bottle, = which had been carefully placed in the rocker panel cavity during assembly. Who says surgeons are the only ones that sew up their evidence. Gary

So far everithing looks great but we'll see. We've only run into some rain a couple of days ago so it's not too bad other than the car being filthy.   I'll see if I can hook up my digital camera to the laptop and upload some pictures.   I'll keep you posted.   Hugo   --- Brett Luikkonen <brett@cisdirect.com> wrote: > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > .......................................................................... > Hugo, Thanks for keeping us updated on your > progression! > I don't know about the others, But I'm damn glad to > be > able to live vicariously through your postings! The pic is 1024x768, nice resolution. The only thing it's missing is the hood scoops for the 400 hood. Check it out!   http://stuweb.ee.mtu.edu/~dakowals/newbird3.jpg   Dereck.
(back) Subject: Re: RE : 69 rear windows From: <F119flight@aol.com> Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 23:00:33 EDT   I too had difficulty with very stuck rear windows. My lower rollers to be broken (fairly common I'm finding). I pull all the guts out and cleaned everything (also a good time to vacuum out the inside of the quarters and = to make sure the water drain is open). I put new/different rollers in but = still required one hand on the crank and the other pulling on the window. I = found the center (lower) roller was binding in the track. I put it in the end of =   drill and ground down the outer diameter against a file. Put the window = back in the car AGAIN and it was improved but not good. I then lubed up all the =   tracks with lithium grease (squeeze tube seems to have more grease than = spray type). The grease made all the difference and the windows roll up with = ease now. As far as your re-install goes you've learned a good lesson......If = you have a pair of assemblies (windows, brakes, door guts.........etc.) never take both apart until you have one back together. Actually it's not too = bad. If you can't get them back in, mail me offline and I can walk you thru it.   Steve 68 350 convert

(back) Subject: What is it? From: "Ensom" <censom@home.com> Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 22:32:18 -0700   Thanks all for your responses. Brian and Jim hit dead on. It was a = pager. It was lodged between the passenger seat slider release button and the = seat, so you couldn't see it under the seat. Should have trusted the wife's = right knee area. I believe it probably fell out of a friends pocket last week when we had taken the bird out for a lunch. It is now rattling away on the kitchen table but I have e-mailed my = friend. Thanks again Carl White Bird
