From: "Jeff Lane" <JeffLane32@hotmail.com> Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 09:23:27 -0400 I agree, Duane - you already have a 1st Gen Bird - right? Are you looking = to sell yours or buy another one? As far as fair market value try http://www.nadaguides.com : (the following may not format too well): 1969 FIREBIRD Model: 2 Door Convertible Weight: 3,498 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price: $3,156 Low Retail: $5,875 Average Retail: $10,400 High Retail: $17,200 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Optional Equipment Add-Firebird 400 H.O. V8 Engine: 20 % -------------------------------------------------------------------- Totals Total Low Retail: $7,050 Total Average Retail: $12,480 Total High Retail: $20,640 but there are many factors that come in to play. Where is the car located, what condition, how much do you want it? The last one is is big factor. = (or was for me at least) I know when I was hunting for a 69 conv up here in = the North East every owner I called about a car for sale would say it had been sold as soon as the ad hit the paper. When I finally did find one I was = the first to call and first to get there and other interested buyers were showing up - so I just bought the thing. Knowing that it needed a lot of work. Now I will never sell it because of the blood, sweat, and tears I've shed. This car has become a part of me. My Dad had one when I was a child and I can still remenber the big shiney bumper that I would reach up and hold = on to in awe... I'm getting all emotional...Sniffle. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bird" <bird@javanet.com> To: "First Generation Firebird-L" <Firebird-L@oakmediacreations.com> Sent: Friday, May 04, 2001 7:01 AM Subject: Re: Value of your gen 1 firebird - Y do you care? > First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List > = ......................................................................... > This is just my $.02 worth, but something about this post looks fishy to me. > > Subject: Value of your gen 1 firebird > From: "Duane Bender" <dbender@dotcomify.com> > Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 13:33:38 -0400 > Hello, > I am a lover of gen 1 birds and always keep > an eye on the various 'trader' journals and > websites. (back) Subject: RE: DOT 5 ...Thanks Bob!!!! From: "Mark Wurtzel" <mwurtzel@flash.net> Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 08:24:09 -0700 Another brake fluid option to consider is (the brilliantly named) DOT 5.1. This is a synthetic fluid that is compatible with DOT 3 & 4 but _not_ DOT = 5 (hence my prior comment on naming). I'm not sure of any other benefits = but it might have but it does have a higher boiling point than most of the DOT = 4 fluids. I have used this in my motorcycles and am very happy with it. I plan to = use it in my car next time it is due for a fluid change (I have the famous = Ford H.D. DOT 4 in there now) but cannot imagine why I would not be just as satisfied with the 5.1 in this application as well. I typically change brake fluid often and have generally avoided DOT 5 (except in a bike where it came OEM) because, to me, the issue of being hygroscopic is far outweighed by the ease of bleeding. I noticed a couple of individuals mentioned having no problems bleeding = DOT 5. Just out of curiosity, are you using a power bleeder or doing it manually? I have found it to be very time consuming (bleed, let sit, repeat, etc.) when bleeding manually. Any tips for speeding the process = up? Mark '68 Convertible
(back) Subject: RE: Stripper From: "Brady Esch" <besch@cardeon.com> Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 08:22:17 -0700 John, I bought a 1-gallon can of Aircraft Stripper at my local automotive paint store, but I think it may be available at some hardware stores. The can = has a light-blue color, by the way. Also, I agree with Charlie Mellone's earlier comments regarding stripper = and body filler (bondo). While I am pretty sure I was told that it is okay = not to remove all bondo after a chemical strip provided the surface layer is removed, I for one would not chance it and chose to remove it all. Note that the penalty for not removing enough would be color streaking possibly years after the paint job. I was doing my stripping (the car, remember) = on a warm partially-cloudy day outside, and the bondo did not strip well at all. Perhaps using Rowan's trick of covering with plastic would get a = good deep soak. Note also that this may vary depending on the type of filler that is on the car. For me, the high-speed grinder was much faster than = the stripper for the bondo. Brady

Rowan alumaseal works welll for small leaks... need to get home with a major leak, you might try an egg...the waterpump will push it to the end of the system where the water is leaking out, and = as it hardboils in the hole, the leak is stopped. The optional 8 track tape player in 1967,8,&9 was not an indash unit. Instead, it was a separate unit from the radio, and mounted to the console if equipped, or to the floor via a bracket if not equipped with a console. The item on ebay has a nose piece that is too large and is the wrong shape for the stock opening in either year car. Lastly, all of the factory sound systems then as now, are Delco products, not Lear. Lear was in fact an aftermarket manufacturer in the '60s and '70s. I don't think that this item will fit in any year 1st gen car without some cutting involved. The ad is worded such that either the seller isn't really sure what this is, or is being misleading so as to cover himself when the buyer complains after the sale. In any case, a buyer of this item will be disappointed. -BoB San Jose, CA 1968 convertible bob.cisneros@Sun.COM

The place was filling with all kinds of great cars. The local enthusiasts brought their cars as well and lined the streets with increddible machines. I walked for hours looking at all the great cars. This morning we departed for Juliet and met up and passed quite a few cars. Mostly it seemd to be clumps of 4 or 5. I hooked up with a couple of corvettes and we were zooming at 100+ at times. The 455 and 2004R is a great combo! Once we got to the lunch stop the place filled up with hundreds of cars. Then off to Joliett. We arrived at Route 66 Raceway and the place quickly filled up with 700+ cars! After standing and walking for about 7hrs my feet are ready to croak. I have uploaded a few more pictures at www.apcom.com/fbody/ptour2001 Tomorrow we're off to Effingham IL. Hugo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
