(back) Subject: Re: Freeze plug replacement From: "Pete D" <pjd805@yahoo.com> Date: Sat, 5 May 2001 09:43:32 -0700 (PDT) Chuck, Another idea for those hard to get to plugs is using a expandable rubber plug. Most auto parts stores carry them and just need a wrench to install them. Most consider this to be a quick fix, but I've seen some used for a long duration without a problem. If you decide to go with a brass plug, make sure it's square to the hole as you tap it in. Also, don't go past flush with the outside of the block. I typically use an aluminum block or round stock that's a little bit bigger diameter than the plug. My question is how to replace it and if I can get to it fairly easily should it be pretty simple? I am not sure by what method they have to be pressed in. Thanks! He will include the hoses and pump if I want them. Sorry, I am still in the dark a bit. Is the rag joint, the coupler = between the steering shaft and the gearbox input shaft? Is a later model ('81) = item a straight bolt in to my '68? Thanks, Jeff Jeff,If the 1-1/4 bar is from a later F body it wont fit. Rag joint is the rubber isolator disc. The late model one wont work. I found one at chevy dealer that fit the later style small shaft(metric) and has the same bolt pattern as early ones. It was for a pick up truck. Look in the achieves for # as i think I posted it a year or so ago. Maybe some day I ll find the box with the GM part #. Gary

I always like to put a face to a name or someone that I have met over a great list like this one. Today was another great day. We went from Joliette to Effingham IL to Mid-America Direct which is a performance parts house for Corvettes, Porsche and Volkswagen. What an increddible site! This thing is getting bigger every day. There must have been over 1000 cars there. There was live music, food, drinks and great cars to look at and fortunately the weather was great, in fact, it was darn hot. I've put up a few more pictures so have at them. Tomorrow we're off to Springfield MO so it's a bit of a longer haul so I'd better go get som shut-eye.
