(back) Subject: lifter replacement From: "Steve Manktelow" <twocan@colba.net> Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 10:45:02 -0400 I have a buddy with a a 350 that he wants to change a few lifters on, and wanted some advice before I give him a hand. He just wants to replace two, or three bad lifters, because his budget is limited. The details of the motor are as follows. 68 350, all cylinders between 110, and 130 psi. 94000 miles. 2bbl I should add that he would also like to change to a 4bbl set up. Here are the questions; Will installing just two, or three new lifters in any way harm the existing cam? Is it a lot better to change all the lifters instead of just the few that are bad? Should he just swallow the cost , and replace both cam, and lifters considering that he wants to change to a 4bbl, that way he can go to cam better suited for a 4bbl. I should mention that this car is not a high performance set up, but will be towing a boat. Thanks to all that reply, as I really appreciate your input, Steve

(back) Subject: Re: Sub frame connectors From: <hugoba@apcom.com> Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 14:11:40 -0700 (PDT) Brett, I bought the ones made by Competition Engineering from Summit and I was = going to install them before I left. These are the bolt-on ones that are made = for the coupes (which I was going to weld in once installed). I wasn't able to = because the convertibles have the extra support structures under the floor boards which get in the way of the bars. That's why they are not sold for the convertibles. I'm going to cut channels in those supports and try to install them anyway since I'm going to weld them in afterwards. When I bought the car the X = brace was missing so I figure the welded in SFC's will provide a lot of the stiffness that the body needs. I'll let you know how it goes. (back) Subject: Subframe connectors From: <NoPinkTutu@aol.com> Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 17:35:17 EDT Brett, If it's a convertible, no matter what brand you use, they'll need modified. There's a brace that runs underneath the floor pans, the one located just about under the back of the front seats. The hardtops don't = have it & the subframes are all made for hardtops. I took a piece of heavy aluminum and made a template by tracing the connector. Then started = cutting the template until it cleared the brace. Then transferred the template = back to the connectors and cut it for clearance. Then I cut 3 pieces of metal = the same gauge as the connector and welded them in to fill the channel made by = the cut. Worked real good. I did the subframe bushings in poly at the same = time. It made a tremendous difference in the way it rides and handles. Not = sure which made the bigger difference since I did them both at once, but = it was worth the work. There are weld in and bolt in. Most of the ones I've = seen that weld in also move your springs inward for wider tires & tubs. You can = weld the bolt on ones in, but if you do, I'd buy a new set of the cage = nuts that hold the front spring hanger & install them before weding them in. It = looked like 4 of them would be a real pain to try to replace with a = connector in the way. I used Competition Engineering's connectors.

I have the original AM radio for the car and will put that back in. I was hoping to find someone that built an am/fm for the dash but alas there is none for the 69. Except the Year One conversion of course. Have you seen that one? They take your stock AM or AM/FM and put a Kenwood KRC-3006 _behind_ the original tuning lens leaving the fully stock appearance! You can even turn off the led display by pulling slightly on the #5 preset button. And it will control a CD = changer or outboard cassette deck. The only draw back is the price. Send in your radio and $1200 for the radio only, $1450 for the radio/cassette or $1525 for the radio/CD changer. A little steep for me right now. Anyone on the list have one of these units?
