I am sure this has been covered before but I did not find much information in a search. I am looking to install a new radio and speaker setup in my 67 convertible without cutting up the dash or doors. I have been planning to use a Custom Auto Sound Radio, Dash Speakers, and Kick Panel Speakers. My main question is on rear speaker installation. Has anyone been able to mount them in the convertible armrest area or just behind the seat? How bad does the convertible boot muffle sound? I just wondered what others have done, pics would be great. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My email is landefeld8@excite.com for pics.
Thanks,

Try this thread: Convertible Speaker Installations The search function is kinda trippy. Use the following criteria in the advanced search window: +Convertible +Rear +Speakers Select: Body Only In the "Date Range" section, delete the "1" and "Week(s)" entries in Newer Than (Click on the "Week" and scroll up one choice to the blank.) Then enter "1" and "Day(s)" in the Older Than section. Happy Searching!

We installed the Custom Aduio Sound system with the same concerns you have. Ended up with the dual dash speaker and undercover rear speakes. They fit nicley under the seat. Didnt have to cut any panels which left a completly stock apperance. Plenty loud cruising with the top down. The best part is it's MP3 compatible. We have all our songs loaded on a small 4G flash drive that sits in the ash tray.

I've been thinking about putting some under the front seats. Haven't actually tried it yet, though. You can get the speaker box wood at any car audio store and make your own enclosures. I was thinking about putting at least 4 speakers ( two facing forward and two facing backwards) in each box.

Vikki,
The speaker install looks great. I need to take some measurements on mine to see if I can make that work. My car is a 67 with a manual top. Anyway, I noticed from the old thread that you used Blaupunkt 5x7, Overdrive speakers. Do you happen to know the top mount depth dimension for those. Thanks for the help.

I havent hooked up mine yet, but I plan on using the dual front speaker setup that bolts up to the single center section. For the back...well...the prior owner cut out two huge holes for what look like monster 16s. Ill probably look to bolt up something into those existing holes, or, replace that back panel and do as someone else here suggested and merely lay speaker cabinets in the back seat floors. I did have some kick panels that were already pre cut, but, I sold them with another project (I didnt like the way they looked anyway).
I think its really a matter of choice...

Ah, the speaker issue, it pops up every now and then. It remains a difficult issue, haven+t resolved it yet myself... HERE´s an old thread about it and HERE´s another.
