Hello All,would any one have some pictures they could post of the Vintage air kit installed on a 1969 bird that was a non a/c car. This would be a great help as I start the install. Thanks to all.
Could anyone offer some input on this type of project ??Has no one attacked this type of project.Certainly would be a great deal of help to have your input if this is something you have done or thought of doing.Thanks.
i installed it on my 69 convertible,it wasn`t that difficult if you follow the instructions.the only hole i had to drill was for the drain hose.you will need a three groove crank pulley and running the vent hose to the drivers side is kinda of a pain but after it is installed it works great.i will see if i have any pics.allen
Sorry dude. All my pics are gone. I remember it being a [censored] to make all the vent tubes fit around the back of the radio and glove box. In fact I couldn't figure out how to install the supplied replacement glove box so I just cut the back half of my original one off. I had my whole interior stripped out when I installed and it still wasn't alot of fun. The other tough part was getting the old heater box off of the firewall. Most unbolt the fender to move it out of the way but I didn't want to and it didn't look like it was supposed to by the time I got it out.
i did not have any pics of the install, but i can tell you that cutting the dash for the center vent is the only cutting you have to do.it takes a little trial and error to get the fit right.you will also have to find a place to crimp the fittings on the hoses once you run them the way you want and cut to length.i to had my dash completely stripped out as i replaced the dash wiring harness at the same time,it makes both jobs a lot easier.you will also have to get a vacuum fitting to connect the vacuum line from the switch in the kit to your vacuum advance line.any other questions let me know, just installed it last winter so it still kinda fresh in my old head.allen
Thanks Allen, I am thinking about doing this down the road and want to make sure I am aware of what all is involved. In the end, are you satisfied with it after the installation?

Thanks very much for the pics, and your results of the install.Received my vintage air system last week and I am preparing to start the install.Car has no dash,no motor and transmission, they are ready to be reinstalled as they both were rebuilt.Jim
Jim, make sure while installing that you test fit everything that's going in that area(like radio, glove box liner, heater control, instuments) as you go or you'll be re-doing everything two or three times.
I just finished the install on my 68. The toughest part for me was the area behind the center dash. I have a center speaker from custom auto sound, it has one large magnet and it hangs down right in front of the center vent. The vent, ducts, controls, radio, and ash tray bracket make for a real **** sandwich right in the middle of the dash. I took about 3 weeks but I work slow. One other hang up I had was that I did not have the correct block off plate which took some extra time to resolve. Cuttng the dash bezel for the center vent without boogering up the burlwood was another thing I took my time on. Just take your time andit will turn out fine.
It doesn't sound like the job is too painful, just hate the idea of cutting holes in the body or other parts of the car. After spending hours upon hours repairing the holes with new metal it makes me cringe to add new holes.

There is just that one hole to drill for the drain tube, the rest of the kit uses factory holes, although a few need to be slightly enlarged per the instructions. Speaking of instructions, they are all available on their web page as downloads and the more time spent familiarizing yourself with them is time well spent. Also, your not looking for a 3 groove pulley, rather a single pulley that goes behind the 2 groove pulley. That much is all factory.
your right about the one groove pulley being stock setup if you can find one.i opted to get a three groove pulley from ram air restorations.it was the stock diameter and worked great.i had never installed one before and following the instructions everything came out great.you will need to take your temp control out because you only need two of the cables.
it really is not as bad as it sounds, although there are a few things other than the vintage air kit you have to purchase in order for the installation to work correctly.one is the crank pulley,a six or seven blade fan blade and a thermal clutch for the fan.the center vent s that come with the kit work fine you just have to cut out for the center vent.the stock dash temp plate works fine.

Hmmm... Mine came with the tube, it's really just a plastic or rubber line. Can you locate the fitting on the bottom of the unit? It has a 90 degree elbow to it. Basically you just want the hole about 1" lower than that fitting. Check out the vintage air web site where the downloads are and select the evaporator kit instructions, they have it illustrated there.
