I have a 4 speed manual trans that likes to pop out of third unless I basically hold it in (for the most part). There is a Hurst shifter in there, that is clearly somewhat new to the vehicle before I bought it last year. Is there a way to adjust the shifter so it stays in, or is it a bigger problem than that? I was told the trans got rebuilt 5 or so years back, but who knows what that means or if that's true. I figure it is either some tweeking of the shifter assembly, or maybe the 3rd gear is chewed up. I have no idea how to troubleshoot, or adjust...Anyone?
More than likely it's a worn third gear. I had the same problem for years only mine would do it when I let off the gas coasting downhill. I just kind of got used to it. After if rebuilt the trans it went away.
I guess thats why it pops out! lol...well, I do enjoy heat more than cold...but its a bit hot now....last time I stood around on a concrete job site in Foxboro, Mass, it was 6 F out...no fun....
My experience with 4-speeds has always been, once they start popping out of gear, they need a complete rebuild/overhaul. Sure you can open them up and adjust and or replace sliders etc. but the bottom line is, it needs a complete rebuild IMO!
