Just checking to see what brand of paint everybody uses. Also has anybody mixed brands of paint, epoxy primmer etc. does a person have to stay with one system?
PPG mostly for finish work the last few years. It's best to stay with one system if you can, at least on body parts that are going to be seen. I've mixed in some different brands like (NAPA's) Martin Senour and others epoxy primers and sealers on some less critical parts. Years ago I used to only use DuPont paints, but then I got out of car repair for many years and my local supplier went out of business.

I still use the original Dupont acrylic lacquer. I purchased a backup gallon mixed to code R solar red/matador red and some lacquer thinner years ago. I need to redo the trunk lid this summer.
As you can see by the responses, it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that you use a base-clear system no matter what color you use. I don’t feel like going tech, so I’ll bail with it has to do with how light hits the paint.
Body prep, not paint, is the key to a satisfactory paint job.
>does a person have to stay with one system?<
YES!!! Meaning that all the materials must be documented to be compatible.
