69 Pontiac Firebird 400 4 speed, numbers matching car, has Power disc brakes, Power steering, standard interior (gold) and was midnight green exterior. I bought it a few months ago to restore but I have 2 of them and haven't had the time I though I would to work on it. It needs a new quarter panel and rocker on the passenger side (have the new panels). It has 26k original miles and has been parked since the damage occurred in 72. I have the PHS documents for the car. I am open to offers.
Your car seems interesting to me, but I have a few questions. I don't mean to be a smartass in anyway so please don't be offended. Since the car has been kind of off the road since '72, what explains the longer rear shackles ? Are you the one who removed the gas tank ? Is it running ? What about the fan shroud ? Since those cars already had a Hurst shifter from the factory when they were stick shift, how come this one has an aftermarket Hurst shifter ?
I'm basing this information off what the seller told me. I'm assuming he told me the truth because he handed me a title from 1970 showing he was the original owner of the car but that being said... I wondered about the shackles myself and why the Rally II wheels are gone. The tank I didn't even notice. I didn't know there was a difference in the shifter until you pointed that out. Not sure why so much is changed on this car. He said he drag raced it in town a lot when he was younger. Another odd thing is the front springs are completely worn out and have blocks in them to keep the car up.
So come to find out the springs are not worn, the blocks where to raise the front end. In the back he installed coils springs and perches on top of the Leaf springs. He was racing it, someone sideswiped the car while racing.
Also the gas tank is still in it. I brought it home from the shop last weekend and looked it over a little better. I haven't had much time to play with it. I'm going to get the engine running this week.
>what explains the longer rear shackles ?< The tires will not fit inside the wheehouse.
>how come this one has an aftermarket Hurst shifter ?< Because the factory shifter would occasionally hang up when speed shifting, and the aftermarket was much more reliable.
Have been traveling. I just sold my other 69 so I'm going to keep this one. Its going under the knife soon to get the body repaired and everything restored if I can get the engine unlocked.
