Hey guys, new to the site and looking for some help. I have a 68 4 speed car. I recently bought a Muncie m20 that was claimed to be rebuilt which I now believe is untrue. Aside from that when I put in the new transmission I also replaced the clutch. The TO bearing is 1 1/4" long and I though I read somewhere that the pontiac bearing is 1 13/16" if I remember right. I have the TO bearing all the way tight to the pressure plate fingers and still can barely get the clutch to disengage. Could it be the TO bearing,, clutch fork, or maybe z bar? I'm at a loss here. The car has a 68 gto 400 in it so who's to know what else may not be true to the car. Any suggestions on what to check would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

I been through this process a 67. Ended up the aftermarket clutch fork was not right and would not release the clutch all the way. It was hitting the firewall.
i had quite a bit of fun with this too. the aftermarket clutch fork did cause some problems and i ended up using the older one I luckily had instead. I tried both the long and short TO bearing but the shorter one worked better. remember to make sure there is a bit of free play between the bearing face and the fingers or your bearing will wear out very prematurely as it never fully disengages.I tried adding some pics to this post of the two clutch forks but not sure if it will work ...
Thanks a lot guys, hard to think of what a guy could do without these forums. Looks like my suspicion is maybe true. Any ideas who sells the appropriate fork? Thanks again

I ended up putting the aftermarket fork in my 20 ton press and bending it till it matched my factory fork I have for my car. It needed to be bent 3/8" to match my OEM.
This might be a silly question, but tyre is not n adjustment In the clutch fork correct? Obviously if the pivot point moved it would change the throw of the bearing correct? Thanks again

Thanks HaroldB and big chief. I think I'm going to go with the one from franks so I know I get what gm wanted. Ames has one the say they have never had a a problem with, but at this point I want to know for sure. Of course who's to say the one from Franks is original..........😫Thanks again guys
