I need some more help with my 69 coupe. The previous owner painted the sheet metal trim between the package tray and the rear window black. It needs to be green. I removed the corner pieces at the sail panel but the long piece that runs under the window won't budge. I can't see any fasteners from the trunk side. I'm concluding that the part either doesn't come off at all or it won't come off with the window installed. Am I right? If so I will need a lot of patience masking everything off to spray it with a rattle can. Could be a disaster if the correct color paint lifts the rattle can black the last owner used on the trim. I will be putting in a new package tray. Can I do that with the long trim piece still in place? Any ideas? Thanks, Doug
The piece below the window is actually part of the piece that goes between the back glass and the trunklid and the glass is attached to it. Try test spraying one of the corner pieces first to see if the new paint lifts the old. The package tray just pushes in under that panel, just remove your rear seat and the old one should just pull out. Good luck. Neill
I just finished painting the same trim piece on my '68 blue to match my interior (using rattle can). I removed the rear window on mine to help in installing new headliner and to look at the condition of the window sill (some pitting that needed fixing). As stated above, the trim piece is part of the body panel and cannot be removed (ecept for the corner pieces) without a torch. I would highly recommend that you remove the window to paint this trim piece since access will be very difficult otherwise and it may lead to having to re-prep and re-paint later. Window comes out fairly easily.
