I'm restoring/having restored a 69 Firebird convertible and when I got the car it was literally in pieces and I have no idea where all the original speakers were located and what size those speakers were. I'm pretty sure where they were and what size but I'm asking the experts on this forum because I know they will know positively exactly where and what size they were. My son is buying the system for this car and he wanted me to ask the experts what they would recommend for a "bad-[censored]" system and where to locate the amp and possibly some small subs and what type and size speakers to put in and where to put them. Thanks for the help!!
I have a 69 vert, the speaker is in the middle of the dash for the am radio. Just depends how far you want to go for a custom system, the sky is the limit. there is a lot more items sold now than in the past. I stayed with a stock am radio to keep the stock look, I purchased a unit that is installed thru the antenna with a 1/4 plug for mp3 players. You tune the radio to 1000 hz for the sound.
Wow, rmac, I was just looking at the original speaker set up an hour ago. i was surprised that there’s more room up under the dash then I thought there was(thats a relative phrase).
Anyway, I think I can get you a pic, we just closed up and cleaned up for tonight, I will try for a photo tomorrow.

rmac I made some custom dash speakers out of some scrap aluminum I had laying around and install two 4" speakers where the factory speaker was. If you have A/C it's a little tighter up in there Ames sells something similar P/N FM128A https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/Detail_Web?part_num=FM128A&order_number_e=NDI5NTA4OA%3D%3D%0A&web_access=Y
