I think I've decided on elect ign for the standard rebuild next week. I'll need to supply the parts. I want to get an ign that looks likr the distributor the came with the car. What do I need to get?

You can just put a pertronix unit in a stock distributor. Piece of cake. There are also aftermarket electronic distributors that look stock. Check the summit catalog.
Over the years I have also seen a lot of votes for a "small body" GM HEI setup. Avoid the normal sized HEI distributor as it does not clear the firewall.

The only hitch (you knew there had to be one) is that you need full 12 volts, not the reduced voltage from the resistance wire. There's a pink wire that goes to the turn signal flasher can that you can tap into.
You will also have to have 12V to the Pertronics were the stock wire provided 12 v on start and 9 -10 v running to the points. It has a resistor in the wire so you have to bypass the resistor.
