Not too worried about getting the motor to the builder, I know it need s a new pan anyway. but want to get it back here without tearing it . It will be put together and painted with a new oil pan.
I thought about building a wood stand for it on a pallet and use straps to secure it while in the truck. has anyone done something like this? if so , do you have dimensions?
any other ideas?
thanks bill v

After all the effort I went through to rebuild mine I wasn't about to put it on tires, I built a stand out of some Tel-spar sign post, no I didn't steal it, for the two ferry boat rides and about 100 mile road trip to get it to the engine dyno and back. I used some angle iron across the engine mount holes then bolted it to the tel-spar. I put some 4x4s in the back of the truck and used lag screws to hold the stand to the 4x4s. I also strapped it to the box just incase I got involved in a MVA on the way. I thought it's a lot of money in there and I may as well prepare for the worst. Can't find a photo of the engine in the back of the truck but have a couple of the engine with the stand bolted to it.

Yes, the holes for the motor mounts. I was going to use the motor mounts and make a cradle with the mounts attached but the dyno shop uses their own system and the mounts had to be off. It held the engine level and balanced even with the tranny attached. The cradle also came in handy when the engine was off the engine stand and hoist for fitting the flywheel, bellhousing and transmission. I had the engine completely assembled with carb, air cleaner, headers, dist, plugs etc. when I took it over to the big island. Looked impressive and drew a crowd of people with cameras. while I was on the ferry boat
Well Bluebird you have nothing on me brother! lol I have pictured here the "REDNECK 2017". Yea that fancy gadget you had to transport your motor is nothing in comparison. You said you had on lookers on the ferry, taking pics etc... We'll I did that one, one better! I had the neighbors laughing
As Jeff Foxworthy would say:
You know your a Redneck if you dig up the front flower garden tires to make a motor stand !!!
