I am installing a two piece carpet set and wanted to know if the front seat bolts should go through both pieces of carpet or not? My seam is about an inch or so to the rear of the front bolts.
The rear seam of the front portion of carpet should end right at the front face of the seat brackets. (just covering the bolt tops)
So in order of installation:
1. Install rear portion of carpet. 2. Install seats and seat frame bolts. (bolts go through carpet) 3. Install front portion of carpet, and rear edge is supposed to butt up to the front face of the seat brackets. (no holes in front portion of carpet).
I will add that after using three different fgf carpet suppliers, all made the front piece of carpet too long, thus messing up this fit. Some of them can be pulled forward a bit, but most I had to bite the bullet and put holes and brackets over the top of both pieces of carpet. But this is not the way the factory did it. An inch rear of the front bolts sounds about right. The carpet edge should just drape over the bolts and sit like that.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Same here the front carpet was just a bit too long. I put studs in the bolt holes & used nuts on top of the seat brackets. Made it a lot easier than trying to find the right spot to cut the carpet ( over the bolt hole) I remembered this trick from my youth, at least one good thing about being old enough to remember these cars when they were new LOL.
Exactly what I did and I tighten the front bolts down on the front carpet to hold it in place and then worked forward. I used the cheap snap off knives to cut. after two cuts snap off end for better cutting usually go through three knives. My left index finger only has three cuts in it , I'm getting better
