Hi All, I have a 68 convertible bird that I would like to quiet up a bit. Has anybody used Dynamat or similar product to quiet road noise, engine noise etc? It a stock all original 350 bird. Was wondering if it makes any difference. Plus having no top, it would be louder than normal anyways. Thanks.
I have dynamat in mine. However, it was a non-running project when I bought it so don't have a before/after comparison.

For a 'vert, you are pretty much wasting your time and money (for sound).
For blocking heat through the floor, Dynamat works well.

So I’m going to catch some flack for this but generic “Peel and Seal†I know I know, it sounds crazy but I’ve had it for a few years now with no problems. If your looking to loose the road noise for under $100 then this is the stuff. With this said, I’m in NY I’ve heard if your the south or west you might want to go with dynomat due to possible vapor smell. However, I’ve had my car at a 100 degree show and did not smell a thing. It took me a while to warm up to the idea but it works and you can do the whole car and doors for around $100.00
Yes, Dynamat pretty much the same peel and stick stuff. Probably 50 variants out there.

The price is what got me! Dynomat is priced out of this world. I guess if your building a huge sound system it has a place, but to reduce road noise (price/benefit) peel and seal did it for me.
I'm going original as much as possible. In this case, I will look for an OEM original solution to the sound deadening material to apply to the floor.
I had my under carriage sprayed with foam back in '81. It dropped the noise level a lot. Especially in the wheel wells. However, the installer plug my rockers etc. and water was unable to drain properly. I kept my car all those years, hoping to be able to restore the car again some day. That day came about 7 years ago. I started restoring the car and what I found a lot of rust held together by foam coating.
I see the peel and stick insulation as almost the same as the foam coating in that water could be trapped and thus erode the body with rust again.
However, other people that have and will use the peel and stick without issue. I live in the north and water is an issue. These cars sweat and rust in our garages!
The other reason for the insulation is to reduce the heat transfer. That is only an issue on the firewall for my location. So I'm not concerned about the heat.
Loud stereo trumps engine noise. I will just turn up the volume to counter the noise! lol
Anybody know where to get the old style stuff for the floor?

All the parts sellers sell that, including Ames. (they come pre-punched to size and shape)
Kind of a semi-sticky paper covered asphalt. Between that and the jute carpet and pad, that's what the original's had.
