For discretion, I will avoid the name of the company.
Part 1 – Installation Issues, both in design and manufacture (Part 2 will be after a test drive, which will be after the exhaust gets put on, which will be after I get it registered, which will be after I get insurance…)
You have to take the switch itself apart to connect the power lead and the switch to tranny wires (which are not provided – just crimp on terminals). However, the manufacturer seems to really like small hex headed screws and set screws for this product. While they provide hex keys for the set screws, unfortunaly they don’t supply any for the assembly or mounting bracket screws. Although I have quite a selection of both SAE and metric hex keys, I had problems. For the two screws that hold the back on the switch (which has to be removed), I found one metric hex key that fit loosely. For the other (a different hex size!!!) I had to hammer a Torx T-20 screwdriver into the screw in order to remove it.
2nd, you have to cut the steel braided cable housing to the correct length to fit. While I remembered that a Dremel cut-off wheel works great in situations like this to prevent the steel braid from fraying badly, I had problems with the aluminum barrel attachment for the end of the housing that is supposed to “hide” the cut end of the housing. It just “rides” at the end of the housing and hides nothing. So I had to machine the inside of this barrel on my drill press so that it slipped onto the end of the cable housing and hid the cut end. Similar to installing new brake cables on a bicycle.
3rd, the carb mounting bracket (which must be used but has to be purchased separately) did fit underneath the rear drivers side carb mounting bolt on my Q-jet. Unfortunately, the bracket reached down too far and hit one of the runners on my E-brock intake manifold. So I had to bend the bracket in a vise to get it to fit.
4th, the stainless steel throttle return springs, included with the bracket, are too soft and were completely useless.
