Can someone point me in the right direction for how to remove the t-handle shifter on a '68 auto. I'm replacing the center console and just need to remove the top t-handle portion but leave the remainder of the assembly in place. Thanks.
Pull up on the black plastic portion of the handle to remove, don't lose the little clip that comes along with it. There is a small allen set screw holding the chrome piece to the shaft. Not sure of the size though. That's it!
Thanks Jeff. Trying to visualize from what I remember. Doesn't the black plastic piece sort of sit inside the chrome piece or is it completely outside of it?
It goes over the chrome bottom section, but inside the plastic piece is a hole that goes over the shaft. The clip sits in the plastic and goes onto the flat metal spring loaded detent shaft.
OK, completely unrelated but since you were just good, quick help, any suggestions on how to tighten up the gas filler door? Quick look didn't see anything "adjustable" or replaceable in the spring mechanism. It doesn't completely fall open on it's own, but certainly is quite loose.
You can try to bend the spring, but that usually doesn't work. They do sell the spring with the new pin to install into the door. I bought one, but realized the part of the door that holds the spring/pin is broken...need a new door.
