Okay, putting together a 1968 project and the previous owner put a small, aftermarket air cleaner on top of the quadrajet 4 barrel....
Heres my question....
The quadrajet has its large front vent tube...The previous owner just drilled a hole in the base of the air cleaner to fit around the tube. Is this what I am going to have to do to put on a different air cleaner assembly? Every "close to correct" or repo air cleaner assembly I see does not have provisions for that tube.
I know, I know...Pull the numbers off the carb and figure out what model q-jet I am running.
This is my first-first gen firebird " everything previous to this has been a bowtie of some sort "and along with this website and a few friends that are die hard GTO fans, I am learning the way of the pontiac
don't cut the tube down,I have an 455 Qjet someone had cut the vent tube down, they have aftermarket Air cleaners open elements that will work, they have a knock out in the bottom. Go to Franks Pontiac Parts he'll have a 71 or later air cleaner if you want stock. The large vent tube Qjets were 71 and later and they are some of the better Qjets for performance,Cliff Rugels book recommends 71-74 if they can be found, these type were not on the 67-69 firebirds.
