The title shows a fully restored Numbers matching TA. In the restored pictures it shows the stacked gauges but in the resto process pictures it shows a clock where the gauges go? I thought all TA's had the stscked gauges, can someone answer that? Also if it is fully numbers matching would it count as that with the clock replaced and the gauges added?
Not all TAs were ordered with stacked gauges. Yes it would still be considered numbs matching if they had replaced the clock with gauges. It would be a plus if they were factory gauges. The numbers part mostly refers to the drivetrain not options/accessories. BTW. The link was for a 69 400 RAIII car.
The stacked gauges were an option on the 69 Trans Am like any other Firebird and were not standard. The hood tach wasn't an option on the T/A, so if you wanted a tachometer you had to get the stacked gauges, which is why there were a lot of them that had them.
I have a set of stacked gauges that came out of a 69 350 2 barrel 4-speed car. It was a rusted out car that was crushed and the guy pulled a lot of parts from it. I wish I had bought the console and 8-track from him years ago, but the gauges set me back too much to afford it at the time.
On an unrelated note, I'd like to get these gauges restored. Has anyone had a set restored? If so, who did them and what did you think of the quality?

Well it's apparent that they did quite a bit of work to the car and it is a very rare one if it's 1 of 48, or whatever, but that's a h3ll of alot of money. The way I see it I've done that much to my car and it was in better shape to start. There also a few add-ons that doesn't thrill me. I think they would've been better off leaving the clock in instead of trading it out for aftermarket gauges. I'd have to wonder what other aftermarket parts they swapped in. More than a few I'd bet. But hey, you do what you can.
Firebob, I would also think if they are claiming it is numbers matching it would also match all of the paperwork. The gauge set does not look like an original i beleive it is an aftermarket unit And as you say what else could have been changed
