I am considering putting Torq Thrust rims on my 69 fbird, but don't know what size to use. I want a good look but think that 15s are too small. I am considering 17s, but not sure if I'd like the look. Does anyone have pics of thier cars with different size rims. They don't have to be Torq Thrust, I just want to see the look of different sizes or if someone knows of a website that would be great. I've gone to American Racing Equipment and used their software for the look, but it's not a real car so it's really hard to tell.
The rebuild is still in progress, but I can get a few more updated pics tonight if you want them. I think they look SHARP, not too much rubber, not too little.
I am just finishing up a complete resto on 68 convert and have a problem with the driver side tire rubbing on the front of the fender not sure if its the tire size 17" 235-45-17 or the set up. Anyone have and thoughts. Have had it aligned and no drop. Wondering if maybe A- arm is bent.
jhkbird, a 235/45/17 overall rim+tire diameter appears to be smaller than stock, but the width is slightly wider.
lots of people run a 235 or 245 width with little or no rubbing. I run a tad taller (235/60/15) tire of that width, and it will rub a bit at full lock on left side to the back on the frame, but the fender clearence is fine. the overall diameter is about 1/2" more than yours. tire calc
if it is rubbing on the front of the fender (fender extension) it could have something to do with the offset, but if the other side is fine, i'd be looking for worn bushings or possibly something out of line or bent, like you thought.
re: pics, my sig shows my car when it had 16x8s (225/50/16 front lowered, 255/50/16 rear)
i am here to suggest the old style of things, unless you want that new chrome and cruise look. More rubber to handle all that power was the way things used to be, but i don't run pizza cutters. here's a few pics to try to persude you, 15s are the way to go to have the most rubber.
