Been looking for a set of heads and 4bbl intake to build original 69 350. Found a guy selling a complete 1970 400. Reported has #16 small valve heads and 4bbl intake. He wants $550 for whole thing or $300 for top end. Thinking I could have the #16 heads machined and use the intake. Has chevy q jet on it too. Should I just buy the whole thing? Are there other parts that are worth having? Questions I'm not asking?
I not gonna build the 350 not the 400 so don't even go there! As far as I know engine spins but no info on "runs or not"
Basically yes. Keeping the block. Replacing the heads, intake, carb and exhaust. I have 11 heads and a 2bll on now. 16s are not a huge upgrade, but would take them to the shop and get them set up. Then complete a full rebuild using the 4bbl intake when time and money allow.
I should have said up upgrading the cars original 350 not trying to build an "original" 350.
Well 70 parts are not 69 so, upgrade maybe , original no. Not even close. Sounds like and ok deal on the heads and intake if that's what you're looking for. Of course if the heads are junk, like cracked or unusable, then you just blew some of your upgrade budget on scrap metal.
In the end I'm gonna pass on the pilfer. Im gonna hold out for some local 47s to port and call it good. Although if a local set of 17s pops up I'll snag those. But if your looking for a 70 400 check out albany NY craigslist. I'll bet you could get it cheap..
I'd find a set of large valve screw in 72 to 78 c.c. heads for that 350.
Keeps your options open if you wanted to upgrade, bump it up...and the initial investment and return is better than small valve press in studded heads..and the rebuild costs will be the same.
Better return on investment..
