I am having hard time determining the importance of the number match distributor, I keep seeing distributors that are listed for 66-79 are there universal pontiac distributors or do i need the exact one. Most of the numbers match ones I find look like they have been laying around a long time and not sure if I can finish it to look good on my new motor or will no one even see it, to which i go back to why not just buy a replacement?

I have my old non A/C original dipstick and tube if you are interested. Not sure if you have A/C or not? Came off my 68 HO motor. I have a/c so I now have the longer dipstick.
That is the wrong oil filter adapter for a WQ HO. You need the 90 degree adapter and the small oil filter adapter for the long branch exhaust manifolds.

There are many distributors that can work. Most need fine tuned for the build. Different number on distributors have differ weights and different springs to make how fast or slow advance comes in. The correct number distributor is mainly for correctness. I'm currently running a 71 dated distributor but have a correct numbered one to install soon for correctness.
so the adapter is the 90 degree i see two types available at franks pontiac parts want to buy the correct one

Regarding the oil filter adap. I could never get them to stop leaking until I bought the one from ram air restorations. It’s money well spent. However if you still want the one I have it’s yours.
