Newbie here. I've finally had enough of hot air only. It will be cool outside and for some reason I cannot get cool outside air to come through my vents. Is there a flap or something that could be stuck? If you have some trouble shooting ideas or maybe a thread that has addressed this issue, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Never gonna happen, especially if the car has sat out in the sun for any length of time.
The 68's with the astro ventilation ball vents pulled air from the cowl area which is alway going to be warm (vent windows are probably better, like the 67's had)
Not sure how the kick panel vents in an A/C car work, but they pull air down through the cowl as well and are usually plugged up with leaves and other debris.
The vents in an AC car are actuated by vacuum. A canister (vacuum accumulator), connected to manifold vacuum, is located under the left fender. The ac/heater controls switch that vacuum to vents actuators.
Below is a '68 AC vacuum and wiring diagram that may help you diagnose the system. Don't know if there are differences in the other two years. And you can find a parts diagram here.
After I've been on the road for an hour or so the engine heats up the firewall, hood, cowl and everything else forward of the rear bumper. My vents work well but the air is always hotter than the outside air due to engine heat. I wish they would have kept the 67 vent windows.
