Rocky Rotella discusses it in "The Definitive Firebird & Trans Am Guide 1967-1969". He states that no reason was given in the zone bulletin announcing the restriction but speculated it was a cooling issue. He later mentions that 126 base model OHC 6's had the AC with MT but no V8s.
I have collected pieces and parts, originally to put a 350HO w/ M20. Then grabbed almost a complete AC system for 600 bones. I just need hoses, connector and controls. My firewall is shot so I can replace with either. Just wanted to be sure what I needed to modify for, extra vacuum or extra cooling.

To err is human. To really foul things up takes a computer.
Still might go that way. I have a complete rear window defogger, AC system, M20, Turbo 400, 3 intakes, 350HO clone with #16 heads, quadrajet, and still don't know what I want out of the car when I'm done. It was a no option V8 of the line, I'm looking to make it fun.
