There was a piece of steel still bolted to it when I took it apart but if there as ever any rubber on it it was long gone. I thought I remembered that 7s had the bumper on the frame and 8-9s had them on the LCAs. Anyone know for sure?
Do you have a pic of it or a link/PN? I still don't know what it looks like. My LCAs have the holes for the limit bumpers so I was thinking that maybe somebody replaced them with 8-9 pieces. Sounds like this bracket doesn't have anything to do with limiting travel of the control arms though.
I don't think so. It had a flat piece of steel on the bottom with a bolt going up thru the bracket but it looked like it might have had something( I thought maybe rubber) attached to it facing down at one time.
You da man J! Now I have to go make sure I didn't toss the old one so I can make a new one for the other side. They don't seem to be available aftermarket. At least I haven't found new ones yet. Thanks.
Somebody over on PY posted an article from a chebby mag showing a rubber bumper being mounted on this bracket facing down toward the LCA. There were no mounting holes in the LCA on the maro.
So I'm gonna say bumper facing down on maro. Bumper facing up on bird. Hands down facing up...much cooler. :-)
Hey what's up with #14 in the diagram? Two different kinds of UCA bumpers. Never seen one like the square-ish one. Maybe later years?
Was the bumper in the pic on a bird or maro? Is the pic from your car? I know by 68 they had transitioned to the bumper on the lower control arm for sure.

It is on a Camaro in my backyard, Firebird and Camaro were the same. If you had a piece of metal bolted to it then your rubber bumper was mounted to it. 67 has the bumper mounted on the subframe, in 68 it was mounted on the rear of the lower control arm, in 69 it was moved to the front of the control arm. That is also the difference between the different years of control arms, the subframes are also different in respect to where the rubber bumper contacts the subframe. I put 68 lower control arms on my son's 72 Nova (which uses the same subframe as 69 Camaro and Firebird) I had to drill holes in the front of the lower control arms to mount the bumpers, here is a pic of his subframe you can see the aera of the subframe where the bumper contacts the subframe
Actually thanks what I'm finding so far. Camaros seem to have the bumper bolted to the frame bracket facing down and Firebirds have the rubber mounted through the holes in the LCA even in the 67s that I've been sent pics from. So far that's the visual evidence I have.

Does your lower control arms have holes in them for the bumper? If so then there should be a place for it to contact on the subframe, post a pic of your lower control arms
