I am starting on rebuilding my '68 Firbird. Muncie was just rebuild, but the car did not have anything for backup lights. I found the correct bracket, switch, but not the rod that connects to the linkage. I see a ton for the '67 bird and '68 Camaro, but am having issues with the last part. Does anyone have one for sale or a direction to look? Will the connecting rod work for the '68 Camaro?
I looked at the aftermarket Hurst backup light, but it seems fairly fragile and does not look like it is a quality part.
All stock and will be a daily driver (mostly for my wife who loves the car).
Well what I would do is make your own and continue to look. I had the same issue with my Sprint and made my own. Here’s what I did. First grab some flexible rod, I used bailing wire, and make a template with the switch centered. Next measure the length and cut a section of music wire and cut it a few inches longer. Next put the music wire in a drill to spin it. While it is spinning use a Dremel to cut a groove on both ends. These groove will hold the small hairpins. Then bend the wire and cut off the ends. It took me a few tries, but it now works.
