I have the hood tach installed on my 69 the wiring i got with it form first place auto has a grey connector that looks like it would go to the tach it self there is a pigtail coming out of the tach then there is a red connector with a single blade that i think goes to the distributor tach connection there is a ground ( obvious) then there is a fuse with a metal c clip on it not sure where that goes I attached a photo
I think you may have your connections mixed up although I have never used that brand tach. If you look in the 69 service manual here https://www.f-body-power.de/new_med...manual/1969_-_pontiac_service_manual.pdf it will help you figure it out. Go to the accessory's section and to figure 15-19 and it gives the connections and wire routing. Good luck.
Apparently I need to adapt the wiring for the HEI connector using a spade connector which is easy enough just not really sure which wire will run to the tach ( I think its the one with the inline fuse ? )
first place auto is not really trying to be helpful at all
Looks like the wiring of my first tach from The Parts Place that eventually failed. The red connector piggy backed power from the windshield washer motor, fused to the coil. Got smart and ordered a Randy’s Tach, power ran to the fuse block.
My HEI is a internal coin on the dist. i think the red connector can got to the blade connector on the dist marked tach and the fused connector i can run thru my firewall to the acc on the fuse block ?? however I am not positive if the red goes to the dist or the fused wire goes to the dist I will never purchase from first place again
