i bought a 68 that has late model 350 motor it has a large 3 groove pulley on bottom that they had to nocth releif in subframe to fit i would like to get back to correct pulley size but not sure what is involved to fix ?i have 11bolt water pump that is 4 1/2 so if i buy the corrct pulleys what elese changes?i assume i need 4" water pump and all the 68 brackets please advise
In 68 they went to the newer style harmonic balancer but still used the 8 bolt water pump and timing cover. If you’re a purist you need to track down those parts. The 68 timing cover is a one year only because it has a different timing scale to work with the larger balancer.
If you’re not a purist, gather up a 69 pulley setup that will go with the 69 and up water pump you already have. You prob also have the 68 and up large harmonic balancer. There are assembly manuals that list the part numbers for the pulleys. I don’t have that handy but maybe someone can give a link. Might even be on this site. Once you have part numbers try Frank’s Pontiac parts. He may have them. Of find a full set on eBay. Ames performance also sells new pulleys.
For brackets, the cast aluminum alternator/power steering bracket setup was the same from 67-69
I have an extra '68 timing cover, and I think balancer and water pump if anyone is looking.
