I noticed today there is a fair amount of oil in my exhaust pipes. Got an irregular knocking sound in engine as well. Car is not smoking or running bad. But something definitely isn’t right.
Not being smart--- just curious if its ever been reconditioned/rebuilt, etc. After 5 decades and 100,000 miles if they haven't been already, they probably will be soon enough.
I'll be pulling mine for rebuild in October after this season for a total rebuild. I can tell you that I also have oily condensation out my pipes when it warms up and have a little faint ticking sometimes in what seems like my crankcase area...
Worn piston rings and old seals allowing oil into the exhaust stroke are my best guess... coolant would also feel greasy and would indicate more serious issues (naturally) if coming out your pipes.

Found my ticking sound. The heat riser baffle inside the long branch manifold I have has come loose from a tack weld I did (poorly apparently) to keep it open. found later that It defaults open, but still wobbles around and "ticks".. Will deal with that at rebuild time in the fall.
