Is there a particular brand or type of seam sealer that is best for going over the welds when I replaced my floorpans and to help flatten out the firewall?

Thanks for any help,
Thomas

Well, since nobody else is answering...

I got my 1st tube several years ago from one of the reproduction parts houses and it was called Body Tech and it was black.

I stumbled upon a new tube labeled "Seam Sealer" at AutoZone about a year ago and grabbed it. It is light grey.

It looks like Ames sells GM's sealer and it's tan colored.

I can't seem to find it in my other on-line catalogs but I know it's in there.

Which is best? IMO whichever is easiest to get smile

A friend gave me a can of HB Body "Auto Seal Special". He used to do body work for a living. This goes on with an acid brush. It's gray and is paintable. It did a great job around the areas I used it in.

Thomas,

3M makes a correct color gray seam sealer that is in a chauking tube - makes it easier to apply. Just put it on and smooth with a brush to get the factory look. You can pick it up and any Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes paint store.

Do they sell a seam sealer that is more like a putty, so that I could put it on the firewall seam, and then use a putty knife to smooth it out straight, and then sand it over before painting; to give the firewall that seamless look?

I belive you are looking for brushable seam sealer. I would go with 3M. Their products are hard to beat.

3-M is the best I've found - by far.
