Idle speed seems high. I think your set at 600-700 rpms.

Put shifter in neutral position
Start engine
Once engine is hot try this:
Push in clutch
Put shifter into 1st gear

This should work as long as the car is not moving while you try to engage clutch to the pressure plate

If your having trouble verify everything is setup properly. Adjust shifter linkage, clutch adjustment - when does the clutch engage/disengage?

It could be your clutch is not disengaging enough so the pressure plate is sticking too the clutch so it keeps turning thus putting pressure on syn-rows to engage the gears.

Verify/adjust clutch see for more info: https://firstgenfirebird.org/forums...rue/re-clutch-adjustment.html#Post322422

I agree with above, if that doesn't help, you could try draining and replacing the gear lube, and adding some synchromesh fluid additive.
Had the same problem once, ended up being the pilot bearing in the crank, it was getting bad and was spinning the tranny input shaft at idle, had a heck of a time getting the tranny into first after sitting at a red light in neutral.

Thanks you guys for the inout
looks like idle is a bit high and clutch needs minor adjustment if not ill check the lube
thanks again

X2 what Gus said. How much play is in the pedal at the top of its throw? How far from the floor does it disengage?
