So, have had my 69 bird for less than a year. Pulled the door panel off (Delux panel) to see why there was no rod for the door lock. Well, there are a few issues. 1st: no rod was in the door, or connecting rod 2nd: seems the panels might have come off a 68 as they have the rear holes punched out for the lock rod 3rd: bought the correct 69 rods
So, few ideas from some chat and head scratching. 1: I could buy new panels (someday... not cheap) 2: try and patch the hole and punch out the correct hole, then put in the correct rods 3: buy the 68 rods and see if they will fit in and then use them till I can afford option 1.
So, would the 68 rods work? Also, these panels being non original has me concerned. What else should I start looking for to see how much has been modified and from what?
I don't know for sure but I would bet the 68 rods would work. Seems odd that someone was able to find red door panels to swap from one car to another. Not that common. Buying new rods does sound the like the easiest way to go.
I don't recall at the moment what is different, but I do not think its as easy as swapping rods. I think the body of the '69 door required the re-routing of the rods verses '68.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
