Hey guys I have a 1969 firebird with a Muncie M20 and the rear axle is 2:56 gears. My buddy has a 1967 Camaro 10 bolt with 3:23 gears laying around. Does the Camaro axles swap over without issue?
Yes except the camaro rear is set up for mono leaf springs and non staggered shocks. You will need to do some engineering . Definitely get rid of those 2.56 gears. You might be happier with 3.55’s. I’ve got 3.23’s with a Muncie and it’s ok but doesn’t launch very well. I’ve got a 3.55 rear going in soon
Or if you’d like to keep the original 69 housing and not have to change perches and shock mounts, or mess with brakes, Ron’s Machine sells the whole kit to change gears w/posi for BOP diffs. $550 and offers several gear choices w/free shipping.
Your Pontiac is the stronger of the two rears and comes with bolt-in axles instead of the c-clip. You'd be better off keeping your rear, or finding a complete 8.5" out a Nova/Omega/Ventura/Apollo from '68+ (be careful, they also came with the weaker 8.2 as well).
