Once I get my new paint job buffed out I am considering adding the HO stripe to make it more identifiable. The way I understand is that this is a factory option that could have been on the build sheet (but not on mine) but was dealer installed. I also understand that the dealer installed them onsite even if they werent on the build sheet.
I guess my question is would it have been possible to have the stripe even though its not on the PHS docs? And what do you think like or dislike the stripe?

I put a black rally stripe on my Verdoro green convertible. I like it and it along with sub-frame connectors are the only non-PHS doc items on my car. Well, p metric redline radials on 15 inch rims also.

For that color of car, I bet the black stripe would look great.
I'm sure back then the dealer would be willing to do anything for an additional buck two eighty nine...
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. The 400HO was not available from the factory with an HO stripe. The order document clearly states it is unavailable. So it will never be on the PHS invoice. However all models could have the rally stripe with out the HO letters. If the dealer would have installed it would be another story.
I would post a pic but need to find a new site as I'm no longer using Photobucket.
Okay, uploaded from my phone. Top wasn't all the way down when I took this.

Hi, I'm not sure about the 68 Bird, but on the 67 I found on "Firebirdgallery.com" that they actually tell you what color stripe came on what color car. My HO was ordered with out the stripe and on the PHS document it says so. I have since put the stripe on, because no one knew it was an HO. I was against putting it on at first because it wasn't ordered with it, but I love it now. Sandi

I did the same. Mine was ordered as a stripe delete, but I like the stripe and, other than dual exhaust, is the only identifier for a 350 H.O. (68) visually.
My car is autumn bronze and I think the white stripe would have looked best, but I read somewhere that the factory H.O. stripe matched the interior if it was black (as mine is) or white, so I went with black.
Whether that is true or not, it looks great, and is easy enough to return to "original" if you change your mind.
Page R-4-A in the sales manual notes autumn bronze and the interiors that would get a white or black stripe. R-4 includes the full list of colors and their corresponding stripe colors.

Interesting. I double checked the Pontiac info and for autum bronze, the only 2 interior choices were parchment or black and the factory stripes were ivory for parchment interiors and black for black interiors (which is what I did).
P.S. Love verdoro green... had a '67 in that color many moons ago!
Hey. Does anyone know about the 1969 model? I've ben really confused about this. On page 186 of Rocky Rotella's F&TA Guide, it lists "L76 Firebird HO Option"s, including UPC"D98 Rally side stripes". (which for 1968 was Code 494). However, in the full UPC/code table (and unlike for 1968) Code 494/UPC D98 does not appear at all.....So what does that mean? Why does he list it at all for 1969? Has anyone ever seen rally stripes on a '69 350/400 HO? and would it be wrong to put them on???

Rally stripes and HO stripe are two different items. Any firebird can have Rally stripes only the 350 HO got HO stripe.

The black stripe on the Voodoo looks excellent! Great choice.
