Folks, has anyone figured our a way to fill in the gap between the hood tach and the hood itself? Mine is not perfectly flush. Maybe some paintable sealant or a rubber gasket?

I put a bead of clear sealant around the bottom edge of mine. Let it dry for a few days before installing it on the hood.
The '68 I owned back in 1979 had an original hood tach and fitted gasket with a sloped edge. I do not believe anyone repops that gasket. And I have heard from others that '68's did not come with said gasket, but I had it in my hands many times, so I am convinced they came with them.
Sold that car a hundred years ago, so can't prove or disprove at this time. Never took pictures of stuff back then.

That is a great idea, my friend. Putting a bead around the lip prior to installing. I just hate the gap because it looks like it was just mounted on the hood as an afterthought and isn't really a part of the body. Gaps are not cool.

Alive and well, my friend. Besides our Alvey Manor in the hills above Nashville that you visited, we now have a place on the water at PCB. Not too far away from you now along I-10. Need to plan a panhandle reunion with Bjorn and others along the coastline.

Interesting that they now list it as including '68. A number of years ago, they only had '67 (or maybe '69?) listed. (and there were a few threads going back and forth about them, mostly with people saying they didn't come that way)
If anyone buys one of these, I'd like to know if they come with the sloped edge that my original one had 100 years ago.
thanks.

I purchased one of those from Ames. Sorry, it is just a flat piece of rubber with holes stamped in it. No sloped edge.

Exactly as suspected. Nowhere near OEM.

Sal, my old friend. Thank you for that. The Tach on my hood looks like I just dropped it on there, not cleanly a part of the hood. I want to fill in those gaps around the tach and make it like more a part of the hood. Its been bugging me for a long time, as you know.

Well, then I would take a shot at Ames gasket. It is probably thick enough to eliminate a decent sized gap. That's why I purchased it - although I have not installed it yet.
I'm thinking its going to look better (like it is supposed to be there) compared to a bead of silicon. I have an aftermarket tach so I figure I will need to do some trimming 1st.
