Hi all, I'm creating a specific thread for this issue. OK, so I have that '68 with what appear to be the original 4 piston calipers. The car is currently sitting on 17" Cragar SS wheels with spacers. I don't like those wheels and I don't like the idea of spacers.
I also have two pairs of Rally IIs in 15x8 with BF Goodrich tires on them. When I try to put those on, the back side of the wheel hits the caliper.
As you can tell from the picture below, the caliper is wider/thicker than the rotor hub. I've done extensive research to find what the hub thickness should be, but can't find the information. I have seen that there are some two-piece rotors too. But if they're the same thickness, the issue will be the same.
I don't really want to order new rotors before being sure they will provide enough clearance for my Rally IIs. There's no shipping back when you order from France, so this can be an expensive bet. Does nayone have any expertise in this issue ?
What is the back spacing of those wheels? I have original 14" rally II's with 4 piston calipers.
On our car, the caliper is not a problem, but that part of the hub holding the outer wheel bearing is a bit thick. I ended up grinding a bit off the hub in spots where the wheel was contacting it. I had to use a 2x4 and bfh to get the wheels & tires off the first time - but no issues with the calipers. That was with new Wagner disc/hub assemblies.
Interesting. Ames Performance list different rotors for 67/68 4 piston vs 69 single piston. It looks like you might have single piston rotors.
If so, I wonder what the rest of the parts are. I wonder if 4 piston rotors will work with what’s there. You probably need to make a decision of 4 piston or single piston and make sure all the parts are correct for the way you go
Everything buried/piled up under cars... haven't had a chance to pull out yet to measure Shining a light on them the my 68's rotors look just like yours. The 67 rotor hubs have a "concave" shape. The calipers are wider then the hubs on both styles.
BTY, just noticed yours has a thicker stabilizer bar then what factory used.
Warrior, thanks a bunch, that's exacty the info I needed. I saw those 67 rotors and thought they might measure a bit different than mine. But if you say your rotors/calipers look exactly the same as mine, then I have my answer : the calipers are wider than the hubs, period.
I'll try and change the calipers for something thinner. I'll keep the original calipers in store, in case I sell the car.
Good observation on the stabilizer. I noticed that too. It's a Hotchkiss and it's much thicker than the original. Not sure it's a great fit. My front suspension is super stiff. And yes, I lowered the car and re-tightened the arm nuts at the right torque value. My front suspension squeaks when I push down on it. It moves, but it actually takes two guys to really make it move down and there are a number of rubber squeaks. That thing needs to be driven !
Tomorrow I'll be working on the air/fuel system and try to find the right advance for it. Fun weekend ahead !!!
