I'm planning to replace the dented windshield trim on my 69. Getting ready to order from NPD. I see they have two molding sets. One is about $100 more than the other and they say its made with thicker material. That sounds like it will be a bit more resistant to denting but I wonder about fitment with the original or replacement clips. Does an one have any thoughts on this as to which would be better to use? Thanks
I haven't seen either product but I'd say thicker is probably better. I wonder if theyre as thick as the originals were even still. I wouldn't worry about trouble fastening them down. No matter what if you pry on the face of a chrome strip you are going to risk denting/bending it. Just don't do it!
I would find someone to take your existing pieces (if original) and have them straightened and polished.
X2, I had a dent in the stainless trim and was able to massage it out from the back side with some body tools and then you can actually sand the imperfections out (on the front side) going finer and finer until you get to a point when you can polish the rest. Stainless is quite forgiving.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the lower windshield molding has a tear in it probably from the use of the wrong clip tool sometime in the past. I have to replace it. I agree that Stainless is a terrific material to work with and can often be massaged, sanded and buffed to like new condition.
I had the same problem with my trim. Classic Headquarters W-838 is the better version trim from NPD. It's their Pro Shop version. I bought from Summit during one of their 10% sales. Fit is good. Lower molding clips not as nice as GM stuff, I used my originals. Polish isn't great, acceptable but not GM quality. Fine for a nice driver. Perfect show car, find and if necessary polish original GM pieces. Check with D&R Camaro. He had some NOS molding a while back.
