I was researching what part number I would need to get the ignition coil back to an original look back on my '68 400HO Bird. I though it would be the 238 as found in the 1973 Parts Book - Group 2.170.
Then I discovered the AMA Specs shows it as the 288. At that point I assumed the 288 was no longer available by the time the '73 book was published so GM was recommending the 238 as the service replacement.
Looking further, I found this PY discussion Original Style Ignition Coil discussion about the 288 also being original on Lemans/GTOs, an AMA spec showing it and some pictures of them.
There are nice repros of several different 60's era coils (293, 270, 298, 204, 210) that a vendor is selling for Chevys. I am attempting to find out if their supplier could make a 288.

I have some extra 1965 Pontiac 389 cu coils. I know they work with 400HO. How do I test them?

Are any of them part 1115288? It should have a 288 stamped on the side, looking like these posted in a PY discussion. (Note the owner of these said he had not yet painted them black after he primed them.)
