Any body have any experience with rubber rear main seals on these engines?? I was reading on Wallace racings website that the Ford 460 two piece seal was a good replacement for the old rope seal on the small crank pontiacs. I plan on replacing the seal on my 400 but would like to go with the rubber seal. Phil.
Interesting thread, but i'm talking about the actual rear crank seal, not the rear pan seal. When i put my pan back on i don't intend on useing any gaskets, thats why the engine is on the stand in the first place (poor quality cork gaskets that leak). I'm going to seal it to the block with Fords diesel engine rated silicone sealer, i've never seen one leak. Phil.
I suggest calling Wade at BOP. I talked to him for a while on this subject and got some good info on when to use a rope seal and when to use a Viton seal. Also got some good info on install tips.
